Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

So, I applied Dec 1, was approved right away.

I inquired about closing date and Chase responded:

"Your first statement closing date will be on December 20, 2021, and your payment due date for this statement period is on January 17, 2022."

Can someone advise what is the right strategy to maximize companion pass for 2 years? Do I spend 2K in December and then 10K in Jan+Feb?
You do not want to earn points that are credited to 2021. Spending $2k before Dec 20th would earn 50k points applied to 2021. You want the points credited to 2022 so that you reach the 125k points for goal for the Companion Pass in '22. Then you have a CP for 2022 & 2023

If you're not planning a flight with a companion in January, then take your time & don't risk the points crediting to the wrong year. If you have a big purchase (& will have trouble spending $12k quickly, then I would try to wait until after Dec 20th).

I applied for the priority credit card under my spouse's name. It was denied and given the following reason: insufficient balance/deposit and investment accounts with Chase, and not enough accounts to open for credit history. Does the priority card app require having accounts with Chase to open a card? I'm about to apply under my name.

And, I can't get through on the reconsideration line.

Got business card today. They asked me for FEIN and proof of business. Of course I have a license so it is quick and easy.

If you are going to spend a lot in December (Xmas presents etc.) then I would phone Chase and have them change your closing date to Jan1. I did this a week or 2 ago and everything I buy now will not post until 2022.

What confirmation do you have that your statement end date was extended other than a random reps word?

Applied this morning and got approval. My next payment due date is Feb. 3, 2022, but my account does not have the statement end date. Should I assume my statement end date is sometime in January 2022?

You'll get the companion pass for 2022 and 2023 if you time it correctly. and you have the entire next year to spend $25k; there are easy ways to get these points without spending as well; it might not be appropriate to say it here
Could you PM me any info on this? Thanks!Applause

If you applied AFTER Dec 2nd, you will be into January for statement closing date.

I'm pretty sure you can transfer UR to SW points. I haven't went into detail on all Chase cards but I believe for the most part UR points are transferable to Chase travel CC partners: Southwest, Marriott, United, etc. Usually 1:1.

They will NOT count towards CP though.

Is that definite? I was just reading on a website where a fellow claimed you can call up Southwest and use your Chase points to directly 'purchase' a flight. He claimed that the airline looks at it the same as if you were purchasing with dollars, and that you earn miles on the 'purchase'.

I'm new to all of these points, though. The Chase card was the first one we ever did, and that was recently. (and we haven't used any of the points yet)
