Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

Hoping for some guidance here. Application submitted November 24. Not approved until December 2. First statement closing date will literally be January 1st. It's December 15. Can I now spend $2,000+ and the 50k point bonus will not post until 2022? Please and thanks.
My statement dates are 4th (personal and Business) and am planning to complete bonus threshold spending around 25th on both cards. I am counting on bonuses will post on 4th based upon last 6 yrs' experience.

If your due date is Jan 17th, that means your statement is going to generate on December 20th. IF you make a large purchase today, it is a near-certainty that the points will post this month, and not count towards a 2022-23 companion pass. If you had an existing Rapid Rewards account at the start of the year and got the 25k head start toward Companion Pass, the 100k bonus + spend points will at least get you the 2021-22 pass.
Apply by date.
Payment due date doesn't have significance on its own, but is very significant in that it is linked to the statement generation date - for Chase personal cards: Due date + 3 days = the statement date, with the 29th-31st of any month not counting.

My payment due date is Jan 17th but my statement end date is Jan 4th I called and confirmed it twice.

Ok, we just got our cards in the mail. My understanding is that it is best to wait until Dec. 20 (or 21st?) to start spending.

Several folks have mentioned buying $200 visa gift cards to bring up spending. (wish I could resell these - that would be fantastic)

I used to buy $1 coins at face value back when the mint allowed this, then turn around and deposit $500 worth at a time into my credit union account, earning credit card rewards for them. Too bad we can't still do this.

Can anyone think of any more no cost ways to get spending up fast?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Putting aside the many, many people who have demonstrated that Chase has never had gaps that small, that would actually violate federal law, which mandates at least 21 days [bankrate.com] between the statement date and the resulting due date.

Best/worst case, the latest your statement could legally generate is December 27th. If, somehow, the 2 phone reps you spoke with are correct, then you get the double of getting 2022 SW points AND having justification for filing a CFPB complaint against Chase for violating the CARD Act. I wouldn't count on it, though.

My first payment due date is Jan. 27. I called customer service that they said that my first closing date is Jan. 6. Is this 21-day interval consistent with what other people are seeing?

Thanks for responding, to be clear I called again and this rep provided more detailed information, I changed the closing date to 4th Jan few days ago so she was saying once the statement is generated on jan4th payment due date will change to Feb 1 which is 25 days. Does this seem correct about payment due date change?

Yes, those dates make sense.

I would have expected Jan 2nd as your closing date, but it is possible.

Question - We got our card last week signing up with a new Rapid Rewards account. Applied and got approved before the stated cutoff date using the link provided here. However when we log into the account, we only see the $2000 spending meter to get 50,000 points. There is zero mention of the additional 50k points... not when logged in nor in any email correspondence we received. Did we screw it up somehow?!

You just needed to go back one page in this thread.

Only the first $2000 will show up until you hit it. Then the $12000 bonus will track.

You'll get the companion pass for 2022 and 2023 if you time it correctly. and you have the entire next year to spend $25k; there are easy ways to get these points without spending as well; it might not be appropriate to say it here
Would love some hints on this one if you feel so inclined!

My first statement closing date is 12/11/2021 with due date on 1/8/2022. I made purchases worth $868 + $150 annual fee totaling to $1018. I have a $1000 purchase to be made now. Should I use the card to make purchase or wait until January 1st? Greatly appreciate your help.

Yes, can go ahead and use the card. BTW 150 annual fee doesn't count towards 2000 spending to earn bonus.
