Busted Sony LED TV

12 10 October 20, 2021 at 12:23 PM
Good afternoon.

I busted the screen on my 2017 model Sony XBR75X850e. Was $3k when I bought it. From what I can find online, fixing a broken panel is not really an option.

Can you sell it for parts? What do people do with nice TVs with a cracked screen these days? I hate to leave it at the curb.

TIA

Unfortunately I think you will have to leave it for the recycling crew to pick it up. There aren't any internal parts that are reusable. Basically it is one large circuit board. Maybe you can donate it to a local school that has an electronics program in exchange for a tax write off

There are multiple circuit boards. Some of the power and backlight boards could hold a bit of a charge for a while and could be a little dangerous. Individual components will sell for more generally, but you may not have the easiest time trying to turn it in to parts or getting much for the parts.

I thought the danger from the backlight boards largely went away when they went to LED's instead of the CCT.

There's a lot less danger than a CRT or microwave, but still potentially a few things on the power or backlight circuit that could hold a charge especially in malfunctioning electronics. Anything over somewhere around 48V has potential to be dangerous.

I am also in the same shoes. My little brother (was so damn mad) by mistake also raging threw a remote controller to the corner. Next thing you know its broken. I wanted to know what the solution is and fixing it is really a no go. So some of my options are donating I don't mind getting some tax write off, but where or how do you find that I am as OP same shoes I don't wanna throw I actually wanted to make some money of it, but nothing.
