Yeah, they were pretty upset about the capacity line for it as a slow cooker. I bought this last time it popped up and I adore it. It's my first rice cooker, but it works a lot better for rice than my instapot does. If their biggest (and really, only) complaint was about the slow cooking, there are few things I personally care about less. For what I want a rice cooker for (cooking and holding onto rice) it's amazing. Rice cooked (on the umami setting, even) it delicious, and lasted 70 hours without issue/getting soggy or gross before I finished it off. I recommend, and took that wired review with a pinch of furikake
If you cook a lot of rice and you're interested in the differences of the rice, there is an article on Epicurious (can just Google it) where they compare the rice cooked by a bunch of different cookers (including Zojirushi and Aroma), which explains the differences more specifically than I can here. I personally eat a ton of rice, but since I'm traveling for work I've been cooking with of an old rice cooker I brought along with me. I can definitely tell the difference (less fluffy, less evenly cooked, definitely "chewier") and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back home to my Zojirushi.

So basically what I'm saying is that the differences are there and real, which is corroborated by most people who have actually tried the rice made by those different cookers. However whether or not those differences are worth the price premium is totally up to you as it is with any other product.

First professional review I could find (Wired) was not very positive on this one. The "umami" setting is a bit of a gimmick, apparently. They say most would be better served by a simpler mid-tier option.

Bought this from the previous sale and I love it! This one replaces my previous Zojirushi rice cooker that I had for over 10 years and my only regret is that I didn't buy a new one sooner. As far as I can tell, this is the latest model in this line and at this price it's a no-brainer for us daily rice eaters.

my cheap but useful 20$ aroma rice cooker died out on me after 5 years of use. been 2 month waiting on a deal for a zoijurushi to come along as i know they are considered the best consumer brand in cooking rice. better than the tiger and cuckoo brand. perfect timing as ive been waiting for the aroma cooker to belly up 2 years ago. and there is a big difference in quality between the zoijurushi (made in china) vs the zoijurushi (made in japan). i bought this from best buy.

Yeah I'm not seeing what this does that the Neuro Fuzzy doesn't. Maybe it doesn't hold rice warm for as long but I heard someone unfortunately cultivated deadly bacteria in holding rice warm for several days that I have no desire to experience.

These are kind of pricey, but they're like the Rolls Royce of rice cookers!

I've had the fuzzly logic 10 cup version for 21 years and it is still going strong. The only two complaints I have is for a family of four it is way too big. One that is half this size would be plenty of rice. Five cups of cooked rice is a LOT of rice, even for our family which includes one American born Asian. 😃 Also, if the need calls for it, it doesn't make a single cup of rice very well if I am home alone. Two cups seems to be the minimum for making good rice. For two + cups, it has always made great rice.

I didn't know there are Chinese and Japanese models. How does one tell?
