First post! But it's a good one. I've been watching this tent for a while, almost bought for over $300. I was really happy to see this price.

I should ask the locals in LA how this is working out for them.

How do these straight walled tents stand up to wind/rain? Some friends of mine had a different brand and it nearly caved in on itself when it got windy/stormy. I've always been more partial to the dome tents for this reason but don't know if these are more study these days.

The 11 people from Costco or this one ? Is it worth the price difference just for 1 more ?
They are 2 very different style tents; its not a question of 11 vs 12 sleeping (which generally means in a head to toe configuration) but rather the walled/cabin style vs a lower ceiling more traditional item.

Wait wait what happened to the thousands of brand new travel trailers bought and paid for by the Fed to house homeless in L.A.? https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2021/05/03/goldstein-investigates-trailers-for-homeless-unused/

Quote from swgfanforlife :
Fun Fact! Many years ago my wife and I lived in a tent about this size for 2 years while we saved up every single penny we could from our jobs. We cooked on a Coleman stove and over the campfire on some nights. We only had one main cell phone that we shared. We bought dirt cheap groceries like hot dogs and soups. We did buy chicken leg quarters when they were on sale for .39 cents a pound back then. We had no heater in the winter but the winters in the deep south(Louisiana) are not that harsh anyway. We did have some -10 degree nights here and there but we always had a campfire on the really cold nights and we had a lot of quilts we got from her grandmother.

On hot summer nights it could be brutal so we would swim in the lake before bed to cool down. We fished a lot on our days off. We hunted for cool looking rocks along the creek and we lay out under the stars on many nights and saw some cool meteor showers. We visited the library and we read a lot of books. We had no tv but we did have a small pocket radio that we would play music on while we fished or snuggled up under the stars. We didn't go to any movies or waste any money. We did buy presents for people on Christmas but we put a $20 limit per person on it.

It wasn't all fun and fluff, we did have some days when we questioned our sanity and almost gave up and went back to the city. Overall it was the most amazing time of our lives but now at my age, I don't know if I'd want to rough it like that again. After 2 years we had saved $160,000 dollars. That was a huge amount to us at the time. We invested it into 2 dividend stocks and moved back to town and bought a small house. My wife went back to college and I went back to work travelling all over the country. I retired at 35 years old and she just retired at 44. Now we are thinking of buying a RV and travelling but until then we sleep late, watch Netflix, enjoy family and friends and live as stress free as possible.

If you ever wanna get away from society and save a lot of money, consider a year or 2 in a tent lol. These days, I'd invest in a small Honda Generator that sips gas and get a portable AC unit for the tent. I'm too old for toughing it out 100% anymore.
AMAZING story! Thanks for sharing it.
