Probably the main reason people like Roku is less clutter. The home screen only shows your apps and what little advertising there is, is segmented off to the side. There's none of that "recommended shows" that you don't wanted to watch scattered all around the home page.
Roku.also has the air of impartiality. Even if it doesn't hold up perfectly.
Apple has the Apple reputation of charging too much and trying to lock you in.
What am I missing out on by having a Roku and not a Fire Stick? I wouldn't describe Amazon Android products as an open ecosystem when you have to side load the Play store to get additional apps.

I am still baffled why people buy Roku (yes I bought a high end ultra a while back and returned it. I am not completely unfamiliar). It's extremely limited OS. Just get an Android box. Now a days even ONN player can be had for $19 from recent deal (not sure if that is still valid). Firesticks are always there and the new max firestick is even more awesome than firestick 4k. To me it just doesn't make sense why anyone would want a closed echo system that is not Apple with all its shiny-ness and tight integration with iPhone, iPad, Apple watch etc.
