I've got the solar variant of this watch and love it. I needed a watch that was durable (like G-shock), had basic smartwatch functionality, accurate workout tracking/GPS, and that I didn't need to charge frequently. This watch ticks all those boxes. The body battery is a pretty cool feature as well for overall well-being tracking and coaching (going to replace my Whoop eventually).

On the flipside, don't expect a robust smartwatch experience. No color, no touchscreen (uses a basic LCD screen), no speaker/mic, no NFC (google pay), etc. Personally, I wear this on a daily basis and have a Ticwatch for when I need a watch with more features.

well said, this is basically the g-shock of smart/fitness watches. still blows my mind that to this date Casio didn't take advantage of the situation with their g-shock brand. it's like sony giving up their walkman business when apple arrived on the scene with ipods all over again

also, 10% cashback if you pay with amazon chase prime card, which should cover most/all taxes

Thank you for the post. With the additional 10% CB, I almost bit but decided against it at the last moment. The watch seems to does everything I need and everything else that I don't (basically want a fitness tracker-watch but don't care for smartwatch functionalities). Ultimately, $180 before additional 10% for a 3-yr old tech still feels a tad pricey to me, especially when the solar edition adds new sensors/functionalities. It costs more but I hope that it'll see more than $100 off around the holidays.

As for Casio, I feel the same sentiment (enough to reply). I really wanted that ultimate G-Shock fitness watch, but they underwhelmed with the Move. It's a runner-focused watch but disappoints in other areas on paper; it also retails for $400 which is comparable to other brands, but at this point its arrival is a few years too late.

I bought solar version of this watch about a month ago.

Like others said this is G-shock version of smart watch. Rugged, simple, outdoor, durable and long lasting battery.

If you spend many hours outdoor (surfing, hiking, jogging) you may want to consider solar version since it provides additional battery hours. Otherwise go with regular version and save $100-120.

Ditto. Exactly my experience. Very well put.

100% would recommend the solar for the longer run time

I spent years building up a collection of watches only to get this as a gift and never take it off. It's comfortable and confident all day long.
Thanks for posting OP but you're killing me (tempted to order multiple colors) glhf!

Tempting, but I think I'll wait for the solar version to go on sale.

Never thought I would have a favorite watch, but this is it! Only thing better would be the solar version. I tell my wife that should could never go wrong with one as a gift. I do not baby it because I know I would get another. I love the lack of color screen and readable display in almost all conditions. I am not a big smartwatch person for media and such, I like them functionality. I currently have a watch 3 and an Amazfit T-Rex. If you want a watch with a long(er) battery life and color display, that is the one to get. I like the instinct for its amazing durability and performance. I wear it daily, but love it for hunting. It is not making noise or overly bright at dawn/dusk. It blends in and is not a fashion watch, but gets attention of those who know.

I got my from Bass Pro last year for maybe $140. It was even better with other discounts at the time. Knowing what I know now, I would not hesitate to buy at current price. Solar is the only thing that is better

I've had this watch for about a year and absolutely love it. I wear it every day no matter what. The built-in heart rate monitor is great, the GPS tracker works great and I love that I can get read text messages on the watch as well. The best part of this watch is the battery life. I charge it once every two weeks (if I'm not working out). If I'm actively using the GPS its about a once a week affair. Love it. I paid $149 at Cabelas last November.

I wish I had the solar version.

Here is a good review of the watch [wareable.com]
