Um.. that was not their point. In fact, quite the opposite.
USB 3.1 Gen 2 has a max speed of 10Gbps (gigabits). That equals a theoretical max of 1.25GB/s (gigabytes) or 1250MB/s. Factor in 10-15% overhead for USB, which means that 1050/1000 MB/s is nearing the practical limit of the interface.
The drive inside is likely capable of higher speeds, but the USB interface is holding it back.

It's as CommonScientist says- 1050/1000 MB/s. I don't believe there is any drive out there capable of more than 7000MB/s. If the usb wire can support some great speed that doesn't mean the drive is capable of producing that speed.

You know, I find replies like this fascinating. The other day there was a guy crapping on the Crucial X8 thread about how slow that NVMe was — and praising the SATA interface-limited EVO 860 for speed.
What would you expect the read speed to be out of curiosity? Keep in mind this is through a 10Gbps USB-C interface.
Anyone know if these house a standard size SSD? As-in, a standard 2.5" or NVMe? Reason I am asking is to see if it can be taken apart to swap out for a larger drive?

I see. You have a legitimate purpose. I mentioned to another SDer that i'd use it for family pictures. But I think i'd be better off getting a larger capacity but a HD or a SSD since it'll be once or twice a month that I'll access those files in a year.
I have probably 1k .nef unedited family pictures from my other HDs that I should probably move. Used to shoot with a d90 5-8 years ago then I stopped.

It's a USB-C drive. New macbooks have 3 USB-C ports. You don't need anything else.
What would you expect the read speed to be out of curiosity? Keep in mind this is through a 10Gbps USB-C interface.
