The lowest level GPU that you need to game is a 1660Ti, IMHO.
If you don't game, don't bother with a dedicated GPU.
Lastly, for a budget gaming laptop... I don't care if it is a intel or AMD, it is not about the CPU it is about the GPU. We can have a large discussion about which CPU is better but not for a budget machine.
I have a "OLD" gaming laptop (i7 3rd gen)... and when I do upgrade I most likely will get a high end Ryzen with a RTX3070 and I will spend close to $1,400.00... BUT THAT IS ME.

Looking at this for my 11 yo newbie gamer. It's $10 cheaper today BTW. Will this be sufficient or should I wait until November? I really wanted to get this xmas purchase out of the way early and to make sure I can actually get one!

Are you a Costco member? If not you can always join... Their BF deals are already known and IMO I see better deals there

I'm not but we do have one locally so I could certainly join and use it. I'll go check those out. Thank you. If you have any particular recommendation, it would be appreciated.
I bought a similarly spec'd one last year for my son for distanced learning and gaming (roblox, genshin, etc). It has held up really well. My only regret is that I didn't get another one at that price.

Do you have a recommendation for a casual gaming laptop around this price point? I don't see any with a good graphics card on the Costco BF sales. (Around this price)

Honestly, I'd prefer something with a 3050 now over a 1650. The Dell G15 has hit $650 with similar specs a few weeks ago.

I don't like that Intel used the word "gaming".
I feel that a 1650 is not powerful enough.
