I've been researching about the 5.1 vs this Vizio and find that the Samsung one has less sound output than this Vizio one. This 7.1 is just 2 extra from the 5.1 version correct?
So for $100 more for 2 extra speakers i don't really need, should I get the Samsung or Vizio?

According to RTINGs it does have an optical in. Can anyone confirm? Weird thing for Samsung to omit

Honestly, looking at the rtings article for this, it will really be a 5.1 u less you have a specific Samsung TV model. They said they could only 5.1 channels in the review so I'd say don't let the 7m1 be your deciding factor.
Yeah, I also use the rting comparing function, and see that the Samsung 5.1 version produces slightly less output than the Vizio, despite it cost double than the Vizio original price. If the output is true, then the Vizio wins, but I also want to consider about the reliability. Some says the Vizio dies like 6 years in best buy reviews.
One thing I found that pulls me toward the Samsung one is I heard it has 9 speakers? While the Vizio one has only 6, O I don't understand how it pulls more output than the Samsung one, also whether which one pulls better surround sound that's my most request.
Most likely you can connect anything to it via Bluetooth, but I also found that you'll only get 2.1 via Bluetooth
