HVAC technician told me to stick with MERV 8-11. Anything above that provides too much resistance and can lead to problems.

I worked on HVAC systems for 15 years, this is not even remotely true. Higher MERV ratings do not stop air flow, they stop fine particles like pollen, dust, and pet dander. Modern HVAC systems work fine with high MERV ratings. The issue with any filter regardless of rating is when they become dirty - this is when it can put strain on a system.

For 4-5" filters this is essentially the peak. It is safe to use at the furnace location alone. Its either or, 1" (rated much higher 2700+) inside at your return location or this (4-5") up top, never both.

Most is marketing and people buy into it. My HVAC guy says the same exact thing, MERV 8 is fine. Higher ones like this one can put a strain on the system. But to each his own.

I have had a Lennox system for 14 years that we got with a MERV 16 filter, been replacing filters annually with Lennox MERV 16 replacements, no system issues (so far)

Keeping aside MERV discussion,most of the sale items that other stores carries like Ace, Amazon link in one of the comments only last for Max of 6 months but this one is for 6-12 months of anyone cares.
