Don't listen to the naysayers. This is a good deal. I have had the ribeye and strip, prefer the latter.

Some tips:
-This will come frozen. Let it thaw in fridge for 2-3 days. While semi-frozen, cut into 3/4" steaks and salt each side generously. Then vacuum seal individual steaks and store in freezer.
-To make medium rare steaks, thaw steak from above in refrigerator and then let it sit for 30 mins to an hour in room temp just prior to cooking. No need to add any more salt. Place steak in 200°F oven and cook until 115°F. Then sear/brown each side in a really hot skillet. You can add some butter or oil, but the meat has plenty of fat and surface will be relatively dry. Not necessary, but you can rest for 5 mins after searing. Then add black pepper (to taste) and then thinly slice the steak against the grain. Be sure to use a sharp knife.

Best steak I've ever had. Easy to prepare. Well worth the money. Enjoy.

Pandemic hit wagyu farmers hard because consumption in the country went down. Less foreign tourists coming into the country to eat it, and less travel and eating out domestically because of the pandemic. The Japanese government has loosened exports of wagyu from what I understand to help these farmers out.

I imagine this trend will continue as more countries outside of Japan breed wagyu full/mixed breed cows in the hopes of capturing market share by offering "same great taste, lower price" foreign wagyu. Japan will want to keep the wagyu brand high. As mentioned in this thread, having Kobe helps, because only cows breed, raised, and verified from Hyogo Prefecture get the Kobe Beef stamp of approval.

This might be more than you wanted to know about Japanese beef. Big Grin

You've obviously never had real wagyu. It's extremely rich and high in fat making you feel full faster than traditional steaks.

For what it's worth, just 6oz of this stuff in Vegas runs $350. Here, you're getting 176oz (29x vegas) for just over double the price.

As reported last time, a lot of warehouses now sell this product in the freezer section in reasonable quantities for $100/lb.

For *most* people this will be a more reasonable size and purchase. Unlike normal steak, 8 oz is a lot of wagyu for one person.

I think he/she meant in the quality over quantity type thing. Whether you believe it or not, supposedly the fancy restaurants serve food in small quantities and as part of the experience with each course, a person is usually satiated by the end of a flavorful meal over a longer time vs someone eating a half pound burger and fries in 15-20min.

It's extremely fatty and rich. Hard to eat a lot in one sitting without feeling like the fat is entering your bloodstream.

I purchased one in the last deal. Fantastic. I would not buy it again if I had access to an H-Mart or somewhere else with some high quality Wagyu. The higher end at an H-Mart is about $60/lb. This is better, but barely, and not enough to justify that price difference. Very glad I got it before, but I won't be swinging that $800 again, even without a convenient and reliable source nearby.
