If I have an ISP which max speed of 150mbps, is this adequate enough? And also is the Costco orbi deal an over kill?

this is directly from the netgear team. i hope this answers your question.

"The WAN connection supports up to 100Mbps Internet connections, while the WiFi on your LAN side supports up to 1.2 Gbps between devices."

Dual band so it's better than using an ISP provided modern/router combo. No Ethernet so wired backhaul is not an option and relying on the dual band isn't great.

Don't do it. Purchased RBK50 in 2019, randomly bricked in 2021. Only recourse is to pay for their extended support. Replaced with Asus wifi 6 mesh and I would never look back.

It's not so much how fast your ISP is, it's more to do with how many devices you have on your network and how those devices are going to talk to one another.

Dual band for mesh means a channel will be utilized for the units to connect to form your network and will take up space for devices.

It means it will support internet speeds from your ISP up to 100mbps, but your devices on the network can talk to each other and share files at speeds up to 1.2gbps inter-network.

I actually bought this same exact one from Walmart last year during black friday for $99, and it's been good for what it is. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive/newer mesh systems, but it gets the job done. Set up was a breeze, and there's an orbi app that gives you basic controls over the wifi network. It was my first foray into a mesh network, and I've loved it. I set it up and have never had to deal with it since.

There are better options out there for slightly more money, especially if you find the right deal at the right time. Costco has had some great deals for TP-Link and Asus mesh systems this year, so if you're not in a rush, you could always wait. I saw the costco deals a few months after I bought this system, but I've been happy with what I have and I'm too lazy to pull the trigger/set up a new system. I've been tempted a few times, but I'll likely rock this until it starts giving me problems. Once it starts acting up, I will likely upgrade, but for what I paid, it's been worth it to have had such a hassle-free experience for almost a year Smilie

I should state that I'm mostly a novice when it comes to this stuff. I've done research and have read enough to at least understand what people say in these threads, but I'm not messing with the settings or security too much. My household is also pretty light in terms of devices. Three phones, two laptops, 5 streaming TV's but only really 2-3 on at a time, PS5/Nintendo Switch, and that's it really.

i have this system, and i added 2 satellites. it functions perfectly fine for us. lots of wifi lights, switches, etc, about 8ish alexas/google minis, smart tv's, laptops, etc. it doesnt have a few features of some of the more expensive units, but it completely fixed a lot of issues we were having. one being coverage around our masonry built house, the other being too many devices for one non mesh router.

im not saying you shouldnt spend $200 or more on a fancier, or more capable mesh system... but i am saying that you should realize that not everyone needs wifi 6 or ethernet ports at the satellites, or wired backhaul, etc.

the satellites for this are cheap to add on as well. 25-35 bucks.

If your ISP is 150M , I would go with a different model. My 2c, I just bought the Deco M9 Plus (Older gen, Does not have wifi 6), 169 + tax at Costco. Seems decent. My ISP is 250M down and I am able to get very close to that speed when I am close the main router. It's tri band with a dedicated back haul between the main router and satellite pucks.

Found the RBK12 (router + mini) for $50 on clearance at Walmart. Figured I'd give it a shot for that price.
