Absolutely terrible printer, I gave it to a friend and they attempted two prints with it and trashed it. I'm a very proficient resin printer, this was agonizing. Get an Elegoo Mars 2 or Saturn and save yourself the heartburn

No. These are not toys for children, resin contact with skin will cause chemical burns. Gloves(nitrile), and eye protection should always be worn, a respirator is also handy due to the fumes some resins give off. Resin prints then have to be cured with uv light. It's a really messy workflow, though it does produce amazingly detailed stuff.

The only way you could make it work is to get it for yourself and you print out parts for her to use in her crafts(once resin is cured its safe to touch ungloved).

There are so many different Elegoo Mars 2 printer models on Amazon... any advice on how to choose?

Just the standard Elegoo Mars 2, has everything you need to get flawless small scale resin prints and you can upgrade to the Saturn after you've tamed this one. The Mars 2 has a mono screen upgrade which gives it a much longer screen life before replacing.

Definitely go mono screen. The color screens are tempting because they are cheaper but burn out so much faster that you'll end up paying as much as the mono by the time you've replaced the color lcd the number of times it takes to reach the lifespan of the single mono screen.

I also cannot recommend a wash and cure station enough. While it isn't absolutely necessary, it makes the process so much easier, faster, safer and cleaner and eliminates the biggest hassle and inconvenience with SLA printing.

I know this is a dumb question but be gentle as I'm totally new to 3D printing. What is this actually used for? If I bought one of these for my 9 year old for Christmas what could she do with it? Can she make jewelry/beads? Is it just something that makes junk pieces that will sit around? What do you actually use it for? Thanks!

Putting in another vote for Mars 2. I've run like I full bottles of resin and had less than 20 failures. And those were all entirely my fault. I slice with chitubox, tilt object 30 percent, I use 70 percent supports to the "all option" and print with default settings for water washable resin and have probably printed about 1000 things. I'm looking upgrade only for bigger build plate.

I use mine to make mini figures for tabletop gaming like dungeons and dragons. If you wanna check out some examples my Instagram is 315retro. Note they are also painted by me but you can see an example of the tiny details you can achieve.

But the possibilities are huge. You, can definitely find files for things to make into pendants and such. You're really only limited by your imagination.

I have had the filament kind too - an expensive prusa which is supposed to be fool proof. I had nothing but trouble with it. My resin printer I was 1 YouTube video away from mostly understanding.

If you'd like to check out printable objects thingiverse is a good place to start. My mini factory has objects too but can cost money for the files. I actually back a few patrons and get monthly files.

I'm sure you could get some enjoyment from it and making custom things for kids is always fun.

It's not a solid deal if it's a bad product. It's quite the opposite. Higher grade 3D printers, regular and resin, go on sale for $100-$150 all the time. You don't really have to worry about missing out on a deal.

Reviews on amazon are really not great. Even at this price I doubt it's worth the hours of troubleshooting and messy cleanup

Think of resin printers as something to print small detailed parts. You probably want an FDM printer, but all 3d printing is a hobby that requires experimentation and attention. Probably something better for a 14+ year old.
