A torque wrench should never be used as a breaker bar (although it might be able to perform the task), as it will mess it up over time. Breaker bars (in addition to the socket you need) are much cheaper and proper to use to break loose and tighten lug nuts/bolts.

I have a HF one and I've used a couple higher quality brands too. The HF gets the job done but I'd buy another brand if I had to buy one again. HF you get what you pay for.

I think the concept of calibration is foreign to most. Most don't even know it, let alone consider doing it.

I'm an example until I read this post.

Update: after reading more post, I also didn't know it's better to tighten with torque wrenches and don't loosen with this tool for preservation. Use only breaker bar for loosening. Got it.

Yes, you can calibrate if needed.... the adjustment is inside the end of the handle. You will need a torque meter like this [amazon.com], or at least access to one. You could do it with known weights hanging from the handle and can find that on youtube.

Most require checking for calibration once a year, or 5,000 clicks. And most people never do it.... lol

That is not a tool to calibrate. That adapter will turn any ratchet into a torque wrench. LOL. You will need to calibrate that adapter as well after a few years.

I like HF stuff. Unless you're working on something that you're afraid that might break or stripped or destroy something then don't worry about HF tools. For example, a small 10mm or less rusted bolt that might get destroyed by a HF tool or the HF tool might break and destroy the bolt. Stuff like that.

HF one is $10 each when it's on sale. Online reviewers say it's quite accurate, within 3-4% range. It can get job done reasonable well at very good price.

I just brought two for $20. In case worrying about not working correctly, I can use another one to double check. So far there is no problem at all. Anyhow, that's only used a couple of time a year when rotating tires for my vehicles. It's not worth spend too much on this.

The HF 1/2" I have only goes to 150lbs. There's some applications I need a higher range, so I purchased the husky 1/2".

Strange (and ignorant) question ... would this make a reasonable replacement for a tire iron? I recently had a flat and could not get the lugs off with the piece of crap tool that was in the spare kit. I was going to buy an actual tire iron but am wondering if this would be better to keep in the vehicle. (Hopefully I never need it.)
