About this book:
In this updated edition of the bestselling The Bread Baker's Apprentice, Peter shares bread breakthroughs arising from his study in France's famed boulangeries and the always-enlightening time spent in the culinary college kitchen with his students. Peer over Peter's shoulder as he learns from Paris's most esteemed bakers, like Lionel Poilâne and Phillippe Gosselin, whose pain à l'ancienne has revolutionized the art of baguette making. Then stand alongside his students in the kitchen as Peter teaches the classic twelve stages of building bread, his clear instructions accompanied by more than 100 step-by-step photographs.

I have had my eye on this book for a while and saw that the price went down to 18.59 which is the lowest price it has been in a while. I started baking with the book Flour,Salt, Water, Yeast but also wanted to try out the recipes in here too. This is the lowest price it has ever been according to 3Camels.

Honestly? I'd prefer to flip open a book to a recipe than scroll through pages and pages of life story looking for the recipe (seems like every online recipe is full of bullshit). There's convenience in having recipes printed, IMO.
Think u meant to say "moot point."
Well good thing the OP said they have already used Flour Water Salt Yeast as a resource. If only people could read past titles.
This is a great book to add to anyones collection. The internet makes every print book "outdated" by the time it's published so this is a mute point

This is a great book. The methods and formulas are written in a way that will get you excited about baking, but…
It is a bit outdated. As tastes have changed, methods have advanced. See Tarine Bread, or Flour Water Salt Yeast for more labor intensive explorations of the artisan styles introduced in The Bread Bakers Apprentice.

Wonderful book! I learned how to bake bread using this book and have been baking now for some ten years. It has beautiful pictures and goes through technique and great recipes. It's also a wonderful coffee table book of you have some food enthusiast friends. It's been a bit since I had a copy available so just bought one.

Serious question, not thread-crapping:
Why buy recipe/cook books when there's the Internet?
TIA

The author is an instructor, teaching baking at Johnson & Wales University (the same school Emeril Lagasse studied cooking. Insert obnoxious BAM !! here 🤣). Unlike internet recipies, which give precise measurements by volume or weight for each recipie, he includes the baker's percentage formula. This gives you the ability to make the recipie as small or as large as you need. You can uses this type of recipie to cook for one or one hundred successfully. Just like a professional baker does. He also includes detailed, step by step instructions. For example, the steps for making his pizza dough covers two pages. If you never made breads before, this is a no fail book. If you are experienced, you still pick up great tips and learn the way a professional breadmaker does things. I learned from my mom, who learned from her mom but I still learned quite a bit from this book. (I know it sounds like it but this is not a paid endorsement for the book. It is just one of the better books I have on kitchencraft 👨🏻 🍳)
