Oh well at least they didn't give me crap about using an old SD card.
The next thing is what is the PC connected with. Is it wireless or hard wired? What speed are you connecting at for either. Check your performance monitor on your PC and see what the network bandwidth is at. You can also log into your router and check bandwidth utilization there if it has that feature.
The size and number of files also plays huge part in how fast they will get copied over. Hundreds of thousands of 1K files will take a MUCH longer time to transfer than say a few files that are hundreds of GB in size. Also, if your PC has an older mechanical hard drive that is severely fragmented, that will also increase your transfer time considerably. Check your hard drives for bad sectors. The system can be hung up trying to reread data off bad sectors,
As you can see, there are a lot of things that can affect transfer rates. You can't just plug things in and expect best case scenario advertised numbers.
If none of the above are the issue, I would recommend using an app like Wireshark and check the network traffic for excessive retransmits. That may be an indication of possible physical network issues like bad cable, NIC or port on the switch.

1. You stated you plugged a couple of these drives in your Synology NAS then created the volume. Whenever you create a new volume, add space or replace a drive, the NAS will run an integrity check and scrub the data for errors. Even though there is no actual data, this process is still going to take place and could take a long time to complete. My 80TB volume takes at least a couple of days. It is a resource intensive process.
2. You then started moving your files to the NAS. You never stated as to whether you let the NAS complete the above process or not and it sounds like you may not even know this was occurring so this might be your number one culprit as to why it's taking so long. You can check by logging on to your NAS and opening up Storage Manager. Select Storage icon and it will tell you the status of your volume. If it is still in the process of the integrity check or data scrubbing it will tell you in the status.
To give you an idea of how intensive the data scrubbing task is, I just started a data scrub task on my system and with nothing else running, CPU utilization is at 60% and disk IO is >1.2GB/s. I have the DS1817+. If your NAS is not running a data scrub go on to the next step.
3. Check your PC. You can run performance monitor and look at the resources on your PC. If you are running Windows 10 open up Task Manager and go to the performance tab. It will tell you what your disk and network utilization are. See if any of those are maxed out. Without knowing your setup (PC age, components, Windows version, network setup, etc) I'm just shooting in the dark. Check your network settings. What is the connection speed? If it is hard wired, then I'm hoping you are connected at 1000Mbs (1Gbs) or better. If it's at 100Mbs or lower, we'll need to dive deeper in to that issue. If you are connected via WiFi tell us what speed you are connected at and what the WiFi versions your router and PC are capable of (B/G/N/AC, etc).
4. We'll skip the Wireshark network trace as that would probably entail a lot more work than you may want to get into on a forum like this. You can simply replace the cable or plug the cable into another port in the router. I would also reseat the cable on the NAS as well just for thoroughness. Bad physical connections can cause disconnects or corrupted data. Since network protocol in use is TCP, your PC and NAS will continually retransmit the data until a good packet is received.
As for the information regarding file sizes, it is what it is. Nothing you can do about that unless you want to try to compress the data into a zip file and copy that over as a smaller number of large files vs, hundreds of thousand of smaller files. I just wanted to throw that information out there in case that was what was happening in your case.

He ask how many I wanted. I said 10 please and he proceeded to process it. There is nothing in their system to limit this. However, it is within their right to limit it to one. Few minutes later, he came back with 10 unique vouchers. They are valid 08/08/21 - 01/29/23 so my advice is to get as many as you think you will need for the next 15 months and bank it. Remember these are only valid for "eligible" WD and Sandisk devices.
The vouchers look like this. [ibb.co]

One option is to try and forego the in-store recycle and save and try to get Best Buy to ship this to you at 15% off. There is an inventory glitch in the 1717 Harrison St, San Francisco, CA 94103 store and they are showing it as in-stock even though it is out of stock within 50 miles. If you order and pay for it to pick up in that store, your order will go through and get cancelled. Call CS and ask why they canceled. My rep apologized and offered me 10% off to ship me the order. I referred to the recycle discount and asked if she can do 15%. She got it authorized and sold them at $170 each.
Of course, this is a huge YMMV but it only cost you time on the keyboard and no store hassle at all. If the store actually gets inventory, you can simple cancel it if you live too far to pick it up.
Hope this helps. Happy hunting.
On my second visit, I used the coupon and paid with the Chase card that has the 5% back promotion for BB purchases. The total after-tax should come to $172. Since the Chase promo on my CC expires next week, and if the BF price goes down to $179 before tax (I saw about 50 of those drives on the shelves of the store), I suppose that it's not worth the wait to save $8 or so.
Then I went to the same recycle stand with an old 1GB thumb drive this time and used a second BB account under my wife's phone number and I got a 2nd 15% off coupon that will expire at the end of Jan 2023.
The coupon itself says: "Save 15% off eligible WD and SanDisk storage devices when you recycle any storage device. Single use - one time only. In-store only. Offer valid 8/8/21 - 1/29/23. Customer upon recycling an eligible storage device will receive a 15% off coupon good towards an eligible WD or SanDisk storage device. Limit of 1 coupon per household and coupon can only be used once. Recycled device will not be returned under any circumstances. Not available in all locations and some stores may have additional limitations."
Therefore, I strongly suggest updating this post so that people don't miss the chance to get an extra 15% off by recycling any storage device.
Plex is a powerful and cruel mistress indeed and she demands more space, always more space. I still feel like a fool for paying good money to hoard crap like Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp [imdb.com] though
However, breaking my vow was made easier and more palatable by paying via PayPal and using the Pay in 4 [paypal.com] option. I'm not willing to spend $200 because the atrocity known as My Mother The Car [imdb.com] demands the space but being charged $50 every 2 weeks interest free is doable and eases my pride...
Can't wait to shuck!!
But I doubt under current situation.
