I love mine. I've had them for about 5 years now and no problems. They are set on timers that turn them on and off. I also have a lutron remote that matches my lutron caseta switch so it all goes together nicely. Hue isn't cheap, but if you are already in it's ecosystem I'd definitely recommend these.

If you just want simplistic RGB with no effort, Hue is hard to beat. However, if you're in any way handy or like the DIY route, you can save THOUSANDS lighting every square inch of your life with other more sophisticated options. I'd highly recommend the YouTube channel "The Hook Up" and his series on light strips.

Take a look at Litecessory. They have solder-less connection and extension parts for Hue strips.

I recently installed the Hue strips underneath my kitchen cabinets with channel mounts with diffusers and they look awesome.

I had to do a bunch of cuts and connection soldering with some CAT5 for runs between cabinet groups. It was a lot of work but it turned out really nicely.

Buy from Costco and return it if you don't like it

Man I've tried that and ended up butchering a couple strips and gave up. Not much experience soldering which is probably the reason. But no matter how clean I would make the soldering jobs it would start shorting somewhere. I also tried those kits on Amazon with no luck too.

I have a light strip and was watching a concert this past weekend and was able to set up my light strip to match the exact same light scheme that was on stage pretty cool lights imo. My $40 knock-offs from Costco don't do quite the same thing

Have these on my TV stand and have noticed the adhesive is not that great. Had to use tape in some areas. Just a heads up.

Cheap sub $10 led strips from Amazon equals greater chance of fire risk but to each their own.

Depends on your needs/wants. Some integrations and quality are better, but I'd say it's best if you want to invest mainly in the hue ecosystem. It's good by itself but doesn't really play well with others unless they have agreements with them like Spotify

Philips Hue is essentially the Ferrari of personal/residential smart lighting that is mainstream available.

There's no $10 solution on Amazon that has power supply and smart home controller as part of it. Hue is convinient and you pay for it. It's not particulary bright and leds are not individually addressible.

If you have some programming skills you can always buy LED strips cheaper and build/buy a controller and configure it with your smart home solution. It requires a bit of tinkering.

Am I right that the only difference between this one and the costco one is that this requires a hub and the costco one is Bluetooth/ Zigbee? Which one should I go with?
