Just bought the Ryobi set a few weeks ago for $92, is this a lot better than the Ryobi? Debating on returning the Ryobi set and getting Makita, Dewalt, or Milwaukee.
The Makita deal from home depot is still available. I returned my ryobi (same deal as yours) for the makita brushless that comes with two 4.0 ah batteries. It's 148. The only con is the tools got a plastic chuck.

Still using a Makita set from 13 years ago. Sure I had to buy new batteries once years ago but the drills haven't skipped a beat.

Think your really going to get even half of that out of the Ryobi set? LMAO

I still have a set of blue Ryobi One+ tools from around 2011 that work.

How are these subcompact, especially compared to Ridgid and Milwaukee subcompacts? Compact, maybe, but not sub. Marketing overreach.

you add the combo driver set along with the free tool. The price will be prorated for the tool set and the free tool. have the free tool ship to store, and not pick it up. you will get refunded on the free tool, so the combo set ends up costing 148

it's the same deal as the ryobi brushless driver for 92, you return the free tool to get the discounted price.

If you're referring to the kit in this link, it's trash because these do not have brushless motors:

Pretty sure this is the newer "updated kit". Still brushless. Newest models of the black sub-compact 18v Drill/Driver and Impact.

If you're not used to higher-end tools, then it won't bother you. There isn't anything wrong with Ryobi for DIY and non-commercial, most got by with a lot less for a very long time. What I will say is, do your research and look at the entire ecosystem you're buying into. It didn't really matter when everything was corded, but now, there are dozens of good tools that each manufacture makes with each battery lineup. I would rank - Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt, Rigid, and Ryobi from best to least, but that's just my opinion. If it matters to you, Milwaukee also has a 5-year warranty, I believe all the others have a 3-year warranty.

Am pretty new to this tools world. Please let me know if my purchase of the Ryobi deal for $140 is better OR i have to return that and buy this Makita ones. Kindly suggest the pros and cons.

I'm just guessing but he's probably talking about doing the 'free tool hack'. But that kit still doesn't have a regular drill driver.

The problem with trying to rank brands like that is that there are several different models/quality levels within each brand so there will be lots of overlap.

I have Ryobi 18V tools from the early 2000s that still work great. The Ryobi battery system profile has not changed since they offered the blue/silver tools that came with Ni-Cad batteries. Popping in Li-Ion batteries into the old tools is great and gives way more life than other brands that changed their battery profiles requiring the purchase of new tools over the years. I'll take nearly 20 years out of my "garbage homeowner grade" Ryobi any day. Just remember, the same company owns Ryobi and Milwaukee so keep that in mind - while they aren't the same, the differences are usually around features and run-time which most homeowners won't have an issue with, especially if they have a couple 4.0AH batteries.

What I will say is stay away from black&decker, hyper tough, and actually not sure about hart quite yet. But ryobi is good if you plan on using the other tools they provide such as the blower, the tire inflator the lights they have. As ryobi is probably the only company to ever change the battery designs. I started myself off with a ryobi set for house hold stuff such as mounting tvs and small furniture repairs. They were good to me but eventually you might need to move up. I got myself a makita unfortunately it's just the driver not the combo.

That's very true, that's why I also mentioned it's just my opinion. This opinion is based upon the entire product line & battery longevity, from the battery design to the 12 / 18 / 20V tool selection. From what I use in the shop to what I use at home. Each brand has it's standouts & really weak offerings.
