Having used all three, including the Makita 36v, I have to call absolute BS.

The saws are all very similar in size and within a pound of each other. While all perform similar when running, the Milwaukee makes less cuts per amp of battery and if using steady, timed out from overheating. While the 36v Makita is a good saw, it requires two batteries and without timing out from overheating like the Milwaukee, has about the same power; albeit the odd 'soft start.' The DeWalt is simply faster than both and just as fast as my corded Makita when using the 8amp 20v, or the 9amp Flexvolt.

When it comes to dust clearance, I would have to agree that the DeWalt is a bit behind both the Makita and Milwaukee and the DeWalt handle is a bit small if you have large hands and working with heavier winter gloves.

Nevertheless, the OP DeWalt being a "toy" is nonsense. While it typically boils down to what battery platform you are already invested in, this DeWalt is more powerful and cheaper.

Have 3 saws already, but this is a great deal... being an adult is hard.

I got this saw a week ago.
Saw bloody rocks.
Had a crap ton of clean up and shed fixing to do after a storm.

Last thanksgiving, I snagged the Milwaukee fuel, this thing looks like a toy standing next to the Fuel version, but this is a pretty good deal with 8Ah battery
Looks like a toy? I've worked with both saws and could attest that the DCS574 (and even the DCS570) will cut harder and with more stamina than the Milwaukee m18 7 1/4" brushless circular saw. The Milwaukee will hit a safety stop to avoid overheating while the Dewalt keeps on going.

I don't believe I have ever seen a plastic guard on a circular saw. No, it seems to be cast aluminum, but maybe magnesium. The base is aluminum and although not quite as smooth as magnesium polished to same level, it is hard for me to tell the difference.
The flexvolt advantage is a plastic guard(the retracting bit, not the fixed part), probably my only gripe with dewalt stuff is these occasional little corner cuts they do which cheapen otherwise excellent tools.

Aren't you better off buying the drill + impact driver power detect kit w/ 2ah + 8ah batt for $299 and picking this saw as your free tool?

.Just checked the OP that we have and the guard is metal, but I cannot tell what the black part it is attached to that connects to the center pivot is made of. Been using for a year and no issues.

Meanwhile, most tools could use some improvement, but no reason to fix what is not broke. What they could do with this saw is to improve the air flow to clear sawdust from in front of the blade. Kind of early, I am still contemplating buying the rear handle worm drive, but this kit is cheap.

I believe you are correct.... I missed that it also included the DCD998 that is a quite powerful hammer drill.

Man, I need a saw for a somewhat limited task (laying down sheathing in an attic space for flooring), but I already have Ryobi 18V batteries. They have a brushless saw for $100 but I know it doesn't really compare to the "big 3" offerings.

Do these batteries (Dewalt) survive a while if not used? As in like 10 years?

Thanks... Got this - needed the hammer drill as well, so going to sell the impact for ~60. Great deal. There are 'deals' bringing the cost of this down as well if your 'honey' lets you get one.

Nice saw and deal, but probably an overkill for a weekend warrior. Nothing wrong going with a basic corded circular saw for small projects now and then, IMHO. Also, even though this one is not super heavy, it is still over 10lb with the 8 Ah battery. For comparison, $59 corded Ryobi CSB135 is 7.7lb with the blade - much easier to maneuver (even with the cord) and never runs out of juice. Nothing against Dewalt, I have a bunch of their tools, great quality.

Or you don't think you can sell a DCD998 hammer drill and a DCF887 impact driver and a 2AH battery all together for at least $100. And, if that's the case, Slickdeals may not be the right site for you. 😉

The old 18v XRP tools are legends though. I didn't have the money to buy higher end tool brands until the 20v line came out or else I'd still be proudly rocking the 18v stem pack tools too.
