My main ssd is 500GB and running out of space so I was thinking about one of these drives. I have never used NVMe. My mobo said it supports m.2 so I think it will work.
Dumb question but I read on the reviews that you need a screw for this drive. Is it not a standard type screw? I got my mobo from a relative so I have no other hardware that came with it??

You are mistaken. Double the read speed of p31 would put it at 7k Mbps, which is definitely Gen 4 speeds. SN750 is certainly not a Gen 4 drive.

Make sure your Mobo does m.2 NVMe and not only m.2 Sata.

If it's something you got from a relative it could be an older board.

Doesn't anyone know offhand if the SK hynix edition Macrium cloning software will work to replace the raid 0 c: drive(s) in a laptop to upsize them with these?

thank you. I just checked and it's a gigabyte GA-X99M Gaminig 5. Looks like there was an F3 firmware back in Jan 2015 that says "Support future NVMe SSD drive". I know he's a big time gamer so I am certain he's kept up with firmware (I'll double check to make sure). BUt it looks like it should be OK, I think???

Look at the PC Mark 10, P31 doubles the SN750. It's 2/3 the speed of FireCuda 530. It loads games faster than the S70 blades (Tom's hardware). S70 is about 10% faster than P31 in 50GB copy test. It's 30% faster in PC Mark 10. Not double in any benchmark I saw.

He was saying closer to gen4 speed and I referredd S70 Blade (which is tiny bit more expensive when on sale), not SN750 and I don't think I've ever mention SN750

I took a quick look at your mobo specs and it does look like it supports NVMe M.2 drives. However your M.2 slot is only PCIe x2 where as this SSD is PCIe x4. This drive will still work for you but you'll get at most 2000 MB/s instead of the 3500MB/s as advertised. If you're just using this SSD as a boot drive and to install games and applications you'll be fine and probably won't notice a difference.

Also to your previous question, yes, you do need a screw (and stand off) to install the M.2 drive. If you don't have that you can easily buy spares online. Just search for M.2 screw. This will set you back another 5 bucks.

He means the XPG S70, which is 7K. But in benchmarks it's not double, and it's actually slower in game load times (by a second or two lol).

thank you. Yes, this will just be my C drive and I rarely game but maybe some COD occasionally.
