You actually don't even need the phone at all. Sounds weird, but as long as you enter an IMEI that passes their compatibility check and qualifies you for the promo, you can just order the SIM and then activate it online. No need to put the sim into a phone at all to activate it. Once it is activated online the service is started, and that is what counts for the 90 days of active service terms.

True story, for this promo I used the IMEI of an iPhone 12 that I got from visible and had already sold(!), but still had the IMEI written down somewhere, and used that to pass the compatibility check and order the SIM card. Once I got the shipping confirmation the next day, I activated my service online (select "I already rec'd my SIM card'), and ported in my expiring Tello number...all before receiving the physical SIM card, which looks like it will be delivered tomorrow.

I've done this BYOD promo several times over the years and never had a problem receiving the git card. They don't check if you are actually using the SIM or phone it was signed up with, just that you have the active line and are paying the bills. Of course, YMMV!
I looked at their site and do not see any option for talk/text only. I also see that you must have Xfinity internet, so many of us do not have any options with them. For those of you who do, sounds like a nice deal.
I used google voice number in the past for BYOD promo and always work. you need to unlock your google voice number from google unlock page [google.com] and pay $3. I recommended to change your voicemail PIN in the google voice setting. This is going to be used by mobile provider for porting. After you complete the unlocking of your GV number, go to xfinity website and place the BYOD order. You should be able to select google voice as your carrier and select "keep my number" to use your GV number. Xfinity will send you the sim card. The porting process start once you receive your sim card and start the activation process. It may take few days to complete the activation. As long as you provide the GV number account information correctly including the PIN (use GV number if you never setup PIN), the porting should be smooth and easy. At the end you need only to pay extra $2 per month for an additional line within the shared plan. .

Google Voice seems to be the cheapest option. $3 to port out.

Does Google Voice qualify for the promotion?

Yes I have ported from Google voice for this promo when they ran it in the past. I wish there was a list but it seems they will actually accept a port from anywhere.

Google Voice is valid but beware their system does not play well with it. Both phones I transferred from GV for a promotion did not go through automatically (Comcast flagged the numbers as new, not transferred. Was told it's common with GV when it was finally fixed) , and their phone/chat support is outsourced to India and separate from Comcast's other services. If you run into an issue, start a ticket on Reddit to get someone who can actually help. Chat/Phone support is worthless.

I thought we were forced to pay a minimum now if we become a new Xfinity mobile customer. How can we go with just $1.13 per month/just taxes per month?

If I already have a line with them and add in another line or two for the promo, will I be paying the $14 per gig per line or can the gig be shared across multiple lines and just a line charge?

Xfinity you can use same gig plan for multiple lines.

Transferred my number on 30th.. lost the deal by 2 days. Got $50.

Bummer, Tello is not on the list. They really don' reference this list anywhere in the promo. How are we supposed to know? Does anyone have experience with BYOD promo with a carrier not on the list? I do have a GV number I can use, but already entered the tello number in the initial order.

Update: Actually, the very last 'carrier' on the page is listed as "Other". I don't know if this page is an actual list of eligible carriers or just a support page. I think if it was strictly enforced they would reference a list somewhere in the promo terms.

If you are on the By-the-gig plan, your data is shared across all lines on the account. Each line gets unltd. talk and text included, but data is an extra charge. As an example, I have 4 lines on my XM account and only my wife uses it with data, so we are usually under 1GB/month, which for my grandfathered data rate it is only $12/m/GB, plus taxes and fees, and as noted about, the fees for me in CA are about $1.13/line/month.

if you cancel your Comcast internet, you pay a surcharge of $20/m per line to maintain your Mobile services. XM only makes sense if you keep using Comcast!

They changed their plans a while back and now it is a minimum of $15/m for most users, assuming all lines do not use more than 1GB data combined. Any fraction of data over 1GB counts as another GB, so add another $15 for each GB you go over. They also have discounted rates if you see yourself using more than 1GB/month. You can choose a 3GB for $30 plan, or a 10GB for $60/m plan, again shared across all lines. Or if someone needs unltd data, they can have their own rate for $45/m. It's all on their plans page.
