It seems more people (on this post anyway) prefer to have the VA panel.

I suppose if everyone is viewing the TV from the center, it doesn't make sense to go with IPS.

i called LG last week and asked if 82" and 86" were VA panels and they told me yes. I will say the customer service agent didnt sound too educated on the products. I may call LG again and ask. I want the 82' if its VA.

This or the Hisense 65U8G that I bought for $990? It's going in a large rec room in a dark basement. The huge screen would be awesome, but I'm not sure if the compromise in video quality would be worth it.

Note: I have no intention of ever using the smart functions on either.

Just spoke to LG customer service and was told that the entire UP8000 series has VA panels. I was told that if they are IPS panels it will be stated on the Specs under Picture (Panel) Wide Viewing Angle and given the example of their 75nano99 to see where this is stated. If you do not find that in the Specs then they are VA panels?! Not quite sure who/what to believe anymore though lol

I bought this last year on green toe for less than this. It is a great TV. It was a painless
transaction from a certified dealer and warranty available.

I had just asked the same question on the TCL post and decided to go with the TCL. I think it will have better picture quality per Rtings.

This is tempting. Because of a previous OLED that went bad LG is offering me 20% off up to $200 on another TV. Even with that I'm very wary of getting another LG product and leaning towards the TCL too. Decisions Decisions.

Why is VA panel good for tvs?
VA = better contrast for dark rooms, worse viewing angle for tv watching in spread out seating.

IPS = worse contrast for movies in dark rooms but better in a lit living room for just tv.

It is an 82 inch TV if you're viewing it so much off to the side to affect your appreciation for it, you need to mount it better or tell someone in your household to get the hell out of your seat.

Not the like the sweet spot is 2 feet dead center or the image looks like potato. As such since "most" people, the ones who bought the TV and care about image quality will be sitting dead center or near the VA will the best performance.

Little 6 year kids don't need pristine viewing angles for their cartoons.

Thanks for clarifying the details for the viewing angle. I do have a very good mount on the wall so it should be fine but I'm wondering if I should hold off for a better tv/deal though. Something tells me better deals will come out on the official dates of BF/CM.

I need to buy 2 80"+ tvs soon. 1 will replace my 55" OLED B6 in the living room and the other is for my finished basement which I won't cheap out on so that will most likely be 77" OLED C1 or better.
