Just pulled a hand-full of quotes so this message is seen. After researching I have an answer... and most won't like it.

LG seems to have multiple panels in various LABELED, 82 inch size, but the reality is they have VA panels that are actually 82 inches and they have IPS panels that are actually 81.5 inches. With a single caveat that they also have a VA panel in 81.5 inch size.

The "actual" 82 inch panels are all VA, but since they market 81.5 inch panels at 82 inches, that is where the confusions lie.

As such, THIS TV model is actually 81.5 inches and it is an IPS panel. The sole 81.5 inch model that is VA is this: LG 82UN8070PU

Whats the general consensus.... I am ready to pull the trigger for the LG C1 65" but am hesitant based on size now that I see all these massive LED's on the cheap. I am in no way going to drop 3k for the 77 with the rarity that the TV will even be used which is why I'm even questioning the OLED to begin with (I don't need it I just want it lol) Seating is roughly 14' away (16' if against the wall) and in the basement "movie theater" with 4 gigantic bean bags for everyone to sit on. Am I going to be disappointed in the IQ of this TV or am I going to be more disappointed in the 65" OLED feeling small on the wall? Thoughts? I appreciate the insight y'all.
At a basement movie theater with 14-16 feet seating 65" will look tiny no matter the picture quality.

That being said for dark room movie watching oled>full array dimming VA led>edge lit VA led>full array IPS> edge lit ips.

This is the worst one for your use case. If you can go a little better. It makes a difference. If $1600 75" qn85a from sams still available, I would get that before this or a Sony A90j or a Samsung Q70a.

I got a 85" samsung qn90a for $2440 from Samsung edu and I am happy that I didn't go with 77" oled.

For those not concerned with VA/IPS and only looking at bang for buck in terms of screen real estate for the dollar, just know that the 86" has been $100 more a few places recently and while 4" doesn't seem like much, it's actually 10% more screen real estate. So your cost per square inch of screen is lower with the 86" TV. You get an extra 2 square feet of screen with the 86". I have the 82" and my brother has the 86", both are great. Just saying if I were buying today I'd definitely get the 86".

Where can I get the 86" for 1400?

I have a 3 year old LG 75" UK6570 that I got for $1200, that TV has done me well, looking to upgrade that to a bigger size. We sit 15-20 feet away in our living room with roughly a 120ish degree viewing angle to anyone that could be watching..

I was seriously considering dropping 5k on the 83" LG OLED, I can, but should I? Probably not...

I wouldn't pay that much for lg oled. I got the 3d version a few years back paid 3k and when it developed burn in a known defect they refused to do anything to fix it. When it comes to lg always get the warranty. They don't support their customers or products is bottom line.

Wow, just got done mounting and setting up the $1300 75" TCL deal from 2 days ago. That one is supposedly a $2300 TV while this LG is supposed to be $1500... But 1500 for an 80+ TV makes this seem like it's a lower end model?

This or the Hisense 65U8G that I bought for $990? It's going in a large rec room in a dark basement. The huge screen would be awesome, but I'm not sure if the compromise in video quality would be worth it.

Note: I have no intention of ever using the smart functions on either.
There is a Massive disparity in size between these two! The LG is almost 60% larger.

Anyone know the feet measurements for the 82 and 86 inch respectively? I have a large tv stand I want to use. Also seems like the 82 deal might be dead as I'm seeing $1499 now. Thanks!

I have ordered the TCL 75R646 as well. Wondering if I should order this and return the TCL. I'm going to use it in a very bright living room, narrow viewing angle.

14' is way too far to sit from a 65" TV. Having said that, I wouldn't pay $1.30, let alone $1300, for any size TV with an IPS panel. I'd personally want to get an OLED and sit much closer to it. But if that's out of the question, then maybe just buy the largest VA LCD that you can afford. IPS LCD is pure trash.

According to the LG IPS vs VA guide... https://www.lg.com/global/busines...muy3-nWMYa...
The unit I picked up from best buy Monday 82up87 is a VA panel. It flashes if you tap the screen.

You don't think OLED tech has changed in 6 years? Because thats how old your TV is. It might be time to acknowledge your personal experience is outdated.

That guide is a bit disingenuous. IPS panels will flash as well just the duration and bloom of the knock point will be quicker and smaller. Since we can't tell what your definition of a "knock" is we don't know how hard or soft you knocked it to test.

But we do have 2 things we can check:
1) Measure the diagonal screen. If it is "actually" 82inches exactly then it is a VA Panel because only true 82 inch screens are cut from VA panels.

If you measure 81.5 inches then it is an IPS Panel. But there is a single VA panel LG uses that also measure 81.5 inches and NOT 82 inches - that model is the 82UN8070

2) So go back and verify your model truly is 82UP8770 and not 82UN8070. Yes, that means verifying on the back of the TV.

Something tells me you got the old model.
