It's a desktop i5 cpu. It should run circles against most of the laptop under 1000 on SD. It will be more expandable too.

Just picked up a Dell XPS 8910 with i7 6700, 16gb ram, gtx 750ti for $200 off FB Marketplace. They go for about $350 on ebay. Used deals are still out there to match budgets 🤙
It sounds like you got a pretty good deal. $200 for that is going to be hard to beat.

That said, while I'm not a GPU expert, I'm pretty familiar with CPU/APU comparisons. The 10400 is quite a step up from the 6700. 10400 Passmark score is 12352 for the 10400, and only 8054 for the 6700. This may or may not matter for gaming (I have no idea honestly), but for various other non-gaming tasks, it can make a difference.

I might even go one step further and try to find a desktop with an i5-11400 (Passmark score of 17295). I've seen desktops with the 11400 recently go for under $400 on the bay with the e. Recent iterations of the Ryzen 5 are also pretty solid, and those can also be found in the sub-$400 range with some patience.

Faster CPU, more RAM thats also faster speeds, extra 1TB HDD.

Yes its a better deal for $150 more, plus the costco return policy, but its definitely extra specs some people might not need. However that 1TB HDD, while not being worth too much extra, is definitely beneficial to older folks who just want to store pictures and videos and stuff on their PC without the worry of an external HDD, only having the 256GB SSD in the OP can be limiting if you like to save content.
Where do younger folks store pictures and videos?

Been looking at this deal for last couple of days... Don't want win 11, but need dvd drive Frown
Need something like this, with optical drive, win 10, wifi, no need any drives - purely for torrent, web etc, connected to tv.
Would love to get one refurbished for 'bout $300. Any ideas where to find one?
You can always downgrade it to W10 with W11 license right now.

The cloud. You pay monthly once you exceed the storage limit. The issue is you really don't own your photos and documents. You just rent storage until you quit paying. You would have to download and save them to a personal HD.

You can pretty much say that about everything here on SD. What's the point.
I think it's different when it comes to desktop computers where you have to decide if you want to upgrade your old computer, buy parts and build a new system, or buy an older system to save time and money... I can go on explaining this more to you, but there is no reason to.

How is that different than anything else? New car vs fixing old car vs used car. New phone vs used vs refurbish phone. New dslr and or lens vs used. I can go on and on. I just don't see how this helps anyone. You pretty much have to make this decision on everything. BTW I have bought used pc before and while they were ok, they have become obsolete much quicker. One more thing, building a new pc is pretty not an option for a home computer unless it's a gaming rig, which if it is, you shouldn't even be looking into this thread. No way you can build a comparable pc for much less than 400 if you are paying for a legit windows license.

I fully agree. $400 can get a lot in the used market especially without a GPU. Someone is always upgrading and ready to offload their year old components!
