Sadly, I do not recommend the device. To me it seems Amazon has abandoned it. The software is super buggy and stale, meaning no new features or updates have been added in years.
It's a real shame because the device had extraordinary promise for cord-cutters. It just has too many issues to overlook. It's very difficult to manage your recordings. Mobile streaming is a coin-flip whether it will work.
I hope Amazon decides to provide more support for recast but after waiting for a while I'm not holding my breath.

The original 2018 schedule was to shutdown all ATSC 1.0 transmissions by the end of 2029 but that has now moved to open status due to shortages of equipment.
My guess is that these recast devices will drop to $50 next year as Amazon moves to the new tuners if they release a v2 box.

I am just putting this out there so you can be aware and educated a bit on the changes coming before investing in new AV toys.
Thanks,,,,,
I never had a software issue. But it comes in handy with my echo shows.
I can watch local news or anything on my show. Many times I have the news on in the morning on my 10" kitchen show.
Setup I thought was easy.
I research antennas and get a good one.
The Antenna Guy on YouTube is very good.
I got mine from Amazon on Black Friday 2019 for $129.
Just say "Alexa, tune channel 18.1"
Bingo, TV on my show in the kitchen or any room. Same with the TV. Just have a fire stick. Say "tune channel 12.1" bingo, channel 12.1
It's like a small TV. Even my old Show 7 works.
Hint: get a power Ethernet adapter and you can put the Recast anywhere there is a power plug. Mine is in an upstairs bedroom to keep the antenna cable short. Streams great with my old Netgear 1900 Nighthawk that's pretty old now. It's the original nighthawk. I use net gear power Ethernet adapters too. Cheap if you buy refurbished
Dropped DirectTV. Saved $150/month x 2 yrs and counting. I don't miss it. There is enough to stream with the OTA channels added.

I believe they only have 500gb or 1Tb models possibly bigger never heard less then 500gb. This device is meant to be dvr in the amazon tv environment.

Agreed. This is a piece of crap product. I use mine as a door stop after being so frustrated with so many software issues.

I've had issues with it staying connected in the past, but that seems to have stabilized. I also had a really hard time when I added a mesh puck. I think the recast and at least one of your fire tv devices have to be on the same puck.
All in all I like it. Mine was a free gift though. Even for this price I might not buy one…
