This is an all time low price. I bought mine for $129 a couple of years ago and haven't seen it any lower.

Sadly, I do not recommend the device. To me it seems Amazon has abandoned it. The software is super buggy and stale, meaning no new features or updates have been added in years.

It's a real shame because the device had extraordinary promise for cord-cutters. It just has too many issues to overlook. It's very difficult to manage your recordings. Mobile streaming is a coin-flip whether it will work.

I hope Amazon decides to provide more support for recast but after waiting for a while I'm not holding my breath.

What everyone should be seeing over the next 24 months is manufacturers discounting their ATSC 1.0 devices as the standard shifts ever so slowly to ATSC 3.0 (commonly referred to as NextGen TV). The link below is the deployment schedule for the US.

https://www.atsc.org/nextgen-tv/deployments/

The original 2018 schedule was to shutdown all ATSC 1.0 transmissions by the end of 2029 but that has now moved to open status due to shortages of equipment.

My guess is that these recast devices will drop to $50 next year as Amazon moves to the new tuners if they release a v2 box.

Another good video on this subject is as follows:

I am just putting this out there so you can be aware and educated a bit on the changes coming before investing in new AV toys.

Thanks,,,,,

I have this unit. Works great for me. I get 28 stations from over 40 miles away with 1500ft mountain between. I have it hooked to a $150 (70 mile Antenna I got at Best Buy Clearstream 4 Max on close out for $90, added the Channel Master adjustable booster) A booster was necessary. Must get the adjustable one. If you over boost you can lose it all. Get the Channel Master. The 500G can be added to very easy with a usb Hard Drive. I have a 2T seagate ($50). Hard to fill after 2 yrs I have it 1/2 full. I could probably erase most of the junk I record.
I never had a software issue. But it comes in handy with my echo shows.
I can watch local news or anything on my show. Many times I have the news on in the morning on my 10" kitchen show.
Setup I thought was easy.
I research antennas and get a good one.
The Antenna Guy on YouTube is very good.
I got mine from Amazon on Black Friday 2019 for $129.
Just say "Alexa, tune channel 18.1"
Bingo, TV on my show in the kitchen or any room. Same with the TV. Just have a fire stick. Say "tune channel 12.1" bingo, channel 12.1
It's like a small TV. Even my old Show 7 works.
Hint: get a power Ethernet adapter and you can put the Recast anywhere there is a power plug. Mine is in an upstairs bedroom to keep the antenna cable short. Streams great with my old Netgear 1900 Nighthawk that's pretty old now. It's the original nighthawk. I use net gear power Ethernet adapters too. Cheap if you buy refurbished
Dropped DirectTV. Saved $150/month x 2 yrs and counting. I don't miss it. There is enough to stream with the OTA channels added.

Just curious , is this any better than HDHOMERUN 2 tuner ? I recently bought the hdhomerun and having hard time capturing OTA channels. Even when i do it get OTA, its not a very strong signal.. If this is better tuner than hdhomerun, do they have one without 500 gb for recording since i only watch news and sports

I believe they only have 500gb or 1Tb models possibly bigger never heard less then 500gb. This device is meant to be dvr in the amazon tv environment.

I have never seen the price lower than this sale. Very interesting. I am currently using the channel master stream+ and ota DVR (puck looking device) which I think is great (great interface, excellent tuner, better picture quality than the Samsung built in tuner, reliable recording with like 3 weeks guide, FREE to use and uses google tv/chromecast interface) but they discontinued this channel master and can't find it anywhere else to buy again. It does work with Netflix/Prime but just needs to be casted from phone. One can disconnect their phone once Netflix/Prime plays. I wanted to buy it for another TV but no luck anywhere.... I have 4 television in the house and they all have fire sticks so this makes sense for me. I wouldn't mind if they were to come out with a Fire TV Recast 2 with hopefully direct connection to a TV where it don't rely on streaming.

I have had a recast for 3yrs and has worked well overall but I think if it breaks I'll just replace w HDHomerun and use Plex so I'm not locked into Amazon. I am unhappy w the latest update.

I had one of the older HDHomerun Connect tuners, and replaced it with the Recast, and the Recast definitely picked up the OTA channels better than the HDHomerun. But - that was an older version of HDHomerun, maybe they have improved.

Agreed. This is a piece of crap product. I use mine as a door stop after being so frustrated with so many software issues.

I like the quality and the price of the recast I just don't like the fact it only records regular tv.

I have one. I like it well enough. I really just use it for watching live local news and a few specific programs. The DVR is full, but still records and erases, but I don't access it much.

I've had issues with it staying connected in the past, but that seems to have stabilized. I also had a really hard time when I added a mesh puck. I think the recast and at least one of your fire tv devices have to be on the same puck.

All in all I like it. Mine was a free gift though. Even for this price I might not buy one…

If you are on cable and thinking of moving to streaming, then this is worth looking at. It has worked for me since I only wanted local channels and DVR was secondary. Free tv guide is a plus. You break even in two or three months. Of course there will be options that may work better for your use case, so check those out. I have 2 TVs, so this was enough. I do occasional DVR and already had fire tv and sticks, so it integrated easily. I don't have mesh setup, though I do use WiFi extender, but faced issues only 2-3 times over 3 years (I think those were after power outages).

I've had a great experience with SlingTV and their AirTV service. Some people say the resolution and audio isn't the greatest, but this is antenna life guys! Right now there is a promo...$49 for the AirTV device (DVR capable with BYO HDD) and an antenna for $49 (with 3 mo paid
