Why they call it a "chromebook"?

It's a THICC tablet and the optional keyboard doesn't have a trackpad… Also, I don't see a way to prop it up without buying said "optional" keyboard or after market case.

Not a good price sine Walmart and Bestbuy selling ACTUAL chrome books (laptop format) between like $90 and $150 with similar specs.

This is weird.
Because as per Google, any portable device running Chrome OS is called Chromebook, whether it is a Laptop, Tablet, 2-in-1 360 degree device. That's why it is being called as Chromebook Tablet by Lenovo. You are forgetting, even for Google Pixel Slate, the keyboard is optional accessory and does not come free with the device and that is still considered a Chromebook.
You need to know a bit about these things before getting so surprised and calling things weird.

It says, "The Lenovo 10e Chromebook Tablet is the perfect tool for K-2 students to begin their academic journey." And, "Built for children, Kindergarten through grade 2."
So this is a modified version of chromeOS for schools/education?

The first Chromebooks for sale were in 2011. Chromebook tablets were introduced in March 2018.

Tab A7 is an Android tablet whereas this is based on Chrome Os. So, depends on what is your preference.

I know they run different OS's, I just meant what is a better value, esp since there are pretty similarly priced deals on the A7 that have popped up on sd.

The clarification helped, because for obvious reasons the first post can be read as a bit of trolling (they're positioned and marketed very differently, even though they have a lot of overlapping functionaliity).

I would actually make the case that this is indeed a valid comparison at the pure functionality-level because I often try to make a strong case that ChromeOS devices could be the ultimate Android tablet. The schedule for ChromeOS updates would put even Nexus Android tablets to shame (as ChromeOS updates include associated Android subsystem updates). Of course, the negative implications of Android operating system updates have declined over time (owners today of devices with Android 6.0 or later are likely not missing out on most any app in the Play store). Despite this, I personally would avoid recommending an Android tablet because of their spotty support record.

In contrast, I'd be much more inclined to recommend something like this device. However, the only concern might be the general performance of this MediaTek CPU with Android apps via the ChromeOS. I suspect this tablet will be serviceable for most basic apps, but the MediaTek isn't starting from a place of strength. In the end, if your application is basic browsing and lightweight apps, this could perhaps be one of the best choices you might make at this price point.

Good luck!
Jon

Thanks OP. Repped. Just ordered. BTW, Is it me or does Lenovo's website destroy confidence? A tech/computer company with a website that is unusable at times - it crashed on me 2x and I had to shut down Chrome and try again.

I was told by little one's teacher that while my kid is the best reader in the class, they scored the worst on the reading assessment because the testing is done on a touch Chromebook so I needed to buy a Chromebook.

Last week I bought one of the $149 Chromebook 3 with Touch from Best Buy (has the same Mediatek 8183 processor). I thought it'd be perfect for my little one. But it was pointed out that a) a 14" Chromebook is simply too big for a little kid and b) little kids get messed up by any type of track pad - it's in the way.

So this clunky (less destructable) 10e + the Folio keyboard case (that doesn't have a track pad) for ~$150 should work perfectly for a few years of school work. I like that Google will update this one until June 2028 - even though we'll have likely moved on by then.

I don't think it's close if it's for you (assuming you're older than an elementary school aged kid). Go with the Duet. Hopefully the price on those drops back the the $199 level during the holidays.
