My experience is the opposite. It is always acting up. For me it's the most finicky printer I've ever owned. I also went the refill kit route, but the machine stops recognizing the canon carriages after awhile. I'm throwing mine in the trash and ordered a brothers laser.

The generic ink for this printer costs almost the same as the Canon ink: lots of $. -$50 every time a color runs out adds up to a lot. If you can find a reasonable priced canon printer and a full set of generic ink on amazon for $10 then it's a good deal. It doesn't matter what ink you use (unless maybe if you print photos) or how expensive your printer is-- in my experience they break in 2-4 years (or less) anyway. I've used many brands of printers with name brand and generic ink. It seems that the Canon printers that take individual ink cartridges have the cheapest generic ink.

You can buy bulk ink and just refill the cartridges yourself. There are ink refill kits on eBay for cheap. You get some ink, a syringe for injecting the ink, and a screw for screwing a hole in the top of the cartridge (although I just use a drill with a small bit). You can get these kits for $10-$20 and have cartridge refills for years. If you run out of ink you can just buy bulk ink for under $15 that will last you many years.

By the way, I have this exact printer (actually the MG2520, but they are essentially the same) and it is great for refilled cartridges (some printers don't work well with them or have chips in the cartridges that reject refills so you have to buy new cartridges). This is one of the best, most reliable and cheapest printers you can buy. If you are doing high-end stuff or color pictures, I don't know. I just print black text and it is very reliable.

Unfortunately limit 1 so need to get something else for free shipping.

I'm going to check brickseek to see if they have these in stock at the store.

Huh, that's interesting. Maybe I will check my purchase history to see if I got this model number before because I know that some are bad and some are good for refills. Like I said, my current MG2520 is great. But I've definitely gotten some stinkers before.

Edit: I just looked it up and it appears as though all of my previous printers were the MG2522. So the fact that I am now using a MG2520 probably means I didn't get much mileage out of those MG2522s. Maybe that's why they where so cheap, ranging from $19-$25 when I purchased them.

Well, good to know. I do need to find a backup, so I will search for a MG2520.

Yes, but they are either not full or are not the large sized cartridges.

I will say that the deals on cheapo printers has really dried up. Used to be that the $19-$25 printer deals would come up all the time. Now, rarely if ever. Not sure if it is pandemic / chip / supply chain stuff or if Canon is not going the cheap printer route anymore. In saying that, some of these cheapo printers have a laughably inflated MSRP of ~$150, but they are still cheapo printers.

I have the MG2520 model which is mostly the same printer which i bought from ebay back in 2016 for 17$. That was a refurbished model. Its still running fine as of today. But dont ask me how much I have spent on ink for it. Smh. Yes, i usually buy generic/after market ink cartridge's which probably has saved me a lot of money.

Will it connect to the Chromebook that was in a recent previous SD? My MG5420 will not!
