Unless you have a very good GPU there will be hardly any difference between this and even a coffee lake in most games. For productivity you should go with Ryzen beause Ryzen consumes much less electricity.
My GPU is GTX-1070. Even my current i7-9700k is an overkill. I got the 9700K for 150 dollars at Microcenter. It carried a MB discount of 50 dollars so I got a free refurbished Asus B365 board.

Not that I would not buy it if it was offered at 150 but that even if you don't live in California you should not feel too bad.
