Kindle Paperwhite prices (basic model w/ads) for the last five Black Fridays:

2020- $85
2019- $80
2018- Brand New model -$100 Prev. model- $80
2017- $76
2016-$75

Amazon was selling brand New Paperwhites for $30- $40 to Amazon members with Student accounts in Sept and October, so $60 for a Used one from Woot isn't much of a deal.

In the past, Amazon was showing "inappropriate" ads when the kindle was powered off, so you could complain to customer support that your kids were scarred by the words and images and they would remove ads for free. Seriously.

What's the over/under on Amazon reducing prices on the new paperwhite on BF? Otherwise $60 for the last gen model isn't bad.

I want to get this for someone who clutters their house with way too many books. Does the paperwhite feel natural enough that it might be used by someone who still reads paperbacks?

No you can't use an Amazon trade-in credit on Woot. That credit is attached to your amazon account and will automatically apply when you by a new device from Amazon.

But on that subject, if anyone IS thinking of doing a Trade-in to be ready for the Black Friday Kindle and Fire sales, you probably should Trade-In your Amazon device NOW, to be safe. Amazon says to allow up to 10 days to 'Verify' your Trade-in. https://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Tra...0825010011

Thank you! I'm intrigued by the warm light feature of the new model, so I'll take your advice and catch/release this one.

There isn't really a way to 'convert' existing physical copies of books to a Kindle version. There are usually books that remain untouched for years and don't wanna discard/donate them. But would be ready to give them up if I'm getting a digital copy for free.

Might be too much to ask, but someday, Amazon could allow a 'trade-in' and compensate users with an equivalent digital copy.

avoid the 3g Cellular version

Good e-Reader has learned that the 11th generation Kindle Paperwhite 5 and the Kindle Paperwhite 5 Signature Edition will not have cellular models, which means customers will not be able to buy ebooks outside a WIFI connection. This is a bold decision, because every single Paperwhite ever made had 3G or 4G variants, that were available to purchase for an extra charge during checkout. Amazon provided the ongoing internet access for free, through a series of telecommunication providers such as AT&T.
Amazon was caught flatfooted when Good e-Reader broke the story a couple of months ago that dozens of Kindle models with 3G internet access will lose its functionality due to the shutdown of the networks in the United States and around the world. A couple of weeks later, Amazon realized their was a problem, due to the sheer number of media outlets that picked up on our story. They offered a series of promotions to upgrade to the Kindle Paperwhite 4 or the Kindle Oasis and even provided free ebook credit.
Why did Amazon not offer a cellular model for the latest generation Kindle? This could be due to a number of factors. Maybe Amazon has realized that paying millions of dollars for 3G/4G internet coverage to AT&T wasn't worth it anymore. If this is the case, we will be seeing the end of cellular variants being offered when new hardware comes out and only WIFI models will be available. Maybe Amazon did market research and found that this isn't a feature people wanted on their Kindle anymore. They also could be looking at their own sales and realizing that the vast majority of people are buying the base model, with the lowest amount of storage and WIFI and only a tiny minority wants cellular access.

Could be a nice upgrade for my really old 800x600 eReader.

Wasn't it possible to flash these with the ad free firmware?

If you ask Amazon cs nicely they'll usually remove the ads for free. Otherwise for jb info check out mobilereads.
