Having used most all brands, these from Harbor Freight [harborfreight.com] work as good as most. For longevity, the twisted wire cups are superior, but the crimped like the OP leave more of a fine finish. Normally, we buy this set [harborfreight.com] (90976 or 60486) that includes both and some others when on sale, as now for $9.00, as the best deal around. It also includes the adapters for smaller shaft grinders.

Having used most all brands, these from Harbor Freight [harborfreight.com] work as good as most. It is the eyes you need to protect, so a face shield and optional long sleeve shirt work fine. Wear gloves if you want to, but quite honestly, I am not seeing the safety issue with the every time scare mongering. Having used literally hundreds of these and larger, I don't get anymore splinters than when working with wood.... and unlike wood, a decent magnet will easily pull these out. Normally, most wires that might break off are not shooting out like an arrow, but rather they typically turn sideways. Even a nail gun that comes out like an arrow will seldom stay straight and pointed beyond a few feet.
I would probably buy the set from HF [harborfreight.com] and use whichever one works. On my cast grill grates, any of them would work, but on a cheaper wire grate, probably the edge ones would be best to not catch. And yea, maybe use the side handle on your grinder to hang onto it.

I really like a trigger switch, then a paddle and lastly, the slider. With a paddle, you may inadvertently turn it on when picking up. When you drop one with a slider switch, they do jump around a lot while you are trying to get unplugged.
The Metabo kit on here for $30 is a decent little grinder, but also a slider. Compared to my 13amp Milwaukee, the slim Metabo is much easier to hang onto. I like the slim handle for one handed operation like tile work, cutting vinyl siding, wood trim coping, etc. Otherwise, anyplace you don't need the power of ongoing grinding.

The next time you are throwing a microwave away, take out and keep the two magnets from the magnetron with one in your toolbox. But, if you can pull out with your hand, that is nothing to worry about.
And who knows, maybe it is this specific DeWalt cup that you are using. We buy the 6" braided DeWalt from Amazon because quite often, if you will check other sellers, there will be some returned and considerably cheaper, have been brand new with maybe a damaged box.
