Most moisturizers can be used be any gender.
Creating male/female skincare products is mostly a marketing thing.

A lot of the time they are the same product just scented differently.

Correct, but their comment is a blanket claim that you cannot add moisture to your skin. That's incorrect… it's one of the most effective ways to do so, and drinking water is actually one of the least due to body regulation.of course some products and formulas won't work, but well-formulated products are great at it.

If the variant you're going to get doesn't have an active like aha/bha, then it should play nice with tretinoin. Otherwise, you should use this during am instead and use a simple moisturizer at night to buffer.

When it comes to skin and hair products:
Unless it's someone fairly young (teens, maybe very early 20s) or someone who never uses a similar product, I'd talk to them before buying anything. Or buy them what they're already using (assuming they've either praised the product, or have been using it for a while).

Otherwise, the gift may not be something that gets used. Although since Clinique is a safer option for people with any skin (or scent) issues, it's more likely to get passed on to someone who can use it.

I've been using the .025 cream formulation of tretinoin which I dont think have any active like aha/bha? Also I've been using the famous Clique DD moisturizer gel as a buffer after applying tret at night and the combo has been working well.
