Wouldn't video lights with a bigger surface area be better, because this small spot LED is blinding?
Better for narrower situations, maybe. The thing about light is that it's pretty easy to go from hard to soft, and specular to diffuse, but not the reverse.
This is a single-point source that, when unmodified, puts out hard, specular light over about 120 degrees. You can put a reflector or a fresnel on it to narrow it and throw it further. You can bounce it off a white or shiny board to soften it up, or through a sheet to diffuse it.
