Actually incorrect, Intel 11th gen has a small increase than the AMD 5X series on CERTAIN single threaded benchmarks (while using significantly more watts), whereas AMD 5X wins in some single threaded and destroys intel in multi-threaded.

Considering I actually work in the semiconductor industry and I keep a close eye on these things, feel free to keep arguing with me. We can go into TDP's too if you want to keep praising intel.

Intels Big/little architecture (12th gen Alder Lake) is looking very promising, but we will see AMD's answer to that new architecture (AMD will most likely use the same). ARM has popularized this architecture in cell phones/tablets for years.

The big problem with a lot of intel processors is thermal bottlenecks. Since cooling has greatly improved the past 2 gens of laptops, I will admit I don't know if they are capable of running a full blast without throttling above 95-100C for extended periods of gaming. AMD laptops should have much less hassle at dealing with the almost 1/4 less heat than the intel TDP...

I got the Legion 5 pro from the walmart deal for $1400, ( https://slickdeals.net/f/15349033-ymmv-lenovo-legion-5-pro-16-gaming-laptop-ryzen-7-5800h-16gb-ram-rtx-3070-512gb-ssd-82jq008nus-1399-in-store-or-1529-99-online?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 ) is this one really that much better? I know its 3070 vs 3080 and 5900 vs 5800 but how much difference?

If you are only getting 87 you need to tune it via MSI Afterburner. I have 2 3080s (one EVGA one MSI) both getting about 100 with some simple memory OC and lower power limit.

I heard the amd cpu has less L3 cache than the i7, and legion 7 amd model uses single sided ram. The performance is significantly lower..

man with how easy it is to buy/resell your old laptop nowadays with covid, I will admit I was thinking about selling my legion 6 3070 that I got from a previous deal.

With this one there is no amex offer/military discount/ good cashback though, so it would cost around 600-700 dollars for this upgrade... seems not worth it..
