If do not want to use Facebook (aka. Meta) account, you can use Oculess. It works pretty well. https://github.com/basti564/Oculess
A sideloadable tool that lets you unlink your Facebook account from Oculus Quest.
Features
- (Temporarily/Partially) Remove Oculus / FaceBook account (only use for disabling updates and telemetry)
- (Fully) Log Out of Oculus / FaceBook account (aka. Disable Oculus Companion)
- Disable telemetry
- Disable Updates
Text tutorial: https://basti564.github
Video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIwUvtx
Pros and Cons:
- The catch is you'll lose access to Oculus Store apps because the entitlement check used upon launching them will no longer function.
- System apps like Oculus TV and Browser will also no longer launch, and casting won't work.
- You can still sideload hundreds of apps from SideQuest [sidequestvr.com] though, and if you want to keep browsing the web in VR you can sideload Firefox Reality [github.com].
- You can still use Oculus Link to play PC VR content, but only if you stay signed into Facebook on the Oculus PC app.
- Virtual Desktop won't work because it's a store app, but you can sideload free alternatives such as ALVR [github.com].

Hope they fix it as for now it has ruined my 4-player Walkabout Mini Golf plans. We're already done it before, but v34 will break it if you turn on that setting, even once, and then turn it off again.

You will definitely want to get a better head strap for it. It comes with the most basic strap that is hard to adjust, offers little support thus making it uncomfortable. Better head straps cost about $20 and here is what I got based on youtube reviews: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B095XX1V4V.
I also got another strap with a build in battery that has been getting very positive reviews. It is a halo type strap with quick swap batteries for $60. Nothing beats it for value IMO. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JNR4Y15. Its new and on back order currently.
Another must have accessory IMO are grip covers as the controllers are slippery. These are about $10 and this is what I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8
Games on the Quest are usually under 1gb, usually no more than 4gb each. The latest Medal of Honor is 40+gigs but that is an outlier, but who knows going forward. I think 99% of people will be fine with the 128gb version. The sideload scene on the Quest is very healthy and robust. Search on reddit and you will easily find information on it.
Also if you wear glasses do your self a favor and get prescription inserts for them. The cheapest option is to get prescription glasses from zenni for about $15 and 3d print holders for them. Here are 2 3d print designs on thingverse:

Instructions on what zenni glasses to get are there as well. You can also purchase printed 3d holders for about $15.
Finally, don't forget to get the $30 oculus store referral credit. You get the credit immediately after activation so you can buy your first game or two to get started. Games are usually under 30 each. The referral will only work if it comes from one of your facebook friends. It does not matter where you buy the oculus from. You get the credit from activating it at the oculus site.
edit: Sorry, didn't see the box saying I'd get $50 credit in an email.
I went with the Mystical80 approach. Signed up for Amazon Visa, got instant approval and $200 gift card. Did promo for first reload onto that gift card of $100, got $10 bonus added. Used OCULUS 50 code ($50 credit back), used Oculus referral link from someone in this thread ($30 back upon Oculus activation).
Total out of pocket: $100 plus tax. I will be left with $60 in Amazon credit and $30 in Oculus credit, so effective cost = $10 plus tax.

Also, I pulled the trigger thinking i can actually use it as a virtual big screen to watch amazon or youtube videos? is that right?
