If do not want to use Facebook (aka. Meta) account, you can use Oculess. It works pretty well. https://github.com/basti564/Oculess
A sideloadable tool that lets you unlink your Facebook account from Oculus Quest.
Features
- (Temporarily/Partially) Remove Oculus / FaceBook account (only use for disabling updates and telemetry)
- (Fully) Log Out of Oculus / FaceBook account (aka. Disable Oculus Companion)
- Disable telemetry
- Disable Updates
Text tutorial: https://basti564.github
Video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIwUvtx
Pros and Cons:
- The catch is you'll lose access to Oculus Store apps because the entitlement check used upon launching them will no longer function.
- System apps like Oculus TV and Browser will also no longer launch, and casting won't work.
- You can still sideload hundreds of apps from SideQuest [sidequestvr.com] though, and if you want to keep browsing the web in VR you can sideload Firefox Reality [github.com].
- You can still use Oculus Link to play PC VR content, but only if you stay signed into Facebook on the Oculus PC app.
- Virtual Desktop won't work because it's a store app, but you can sideload free alternatives such as ALVR [github.com].

Hope they fix it as for now it has ruined my 4-player Walkabout Mini Golf plans. We're already done it before, but v34 will break it if you turn on that setting, even once, and then turn it off again.

Not that knowing this matters. Most people will not care until it is too late to opt-out.

But yeah, I noticed that on a fake FB account I made years ago that "people you may know" was sure enough all my friends and coworkers, I assume they track it not by name since I created a fake one, but by phone contacts and IP addresses as people whose home networks or work network I share show up.
It says "This credit expires on January 14, 2022"
I bought 1 x 128GB and 1 x 256GB version but I got only 1 $50 credit. At ordering page/checkout of oculus it was showing "Free $50 Digital Credit for Amazon.com" for both items so I thought I would get 2 x $50 credit. Might need to wait or ask Amazon support about it. I will just return 1 item then.

It's called Ghost account. Those who never sign up with any Facebook accounts, have a ghost profile , just one, and they are tracked like everyone else by Facebook. There are tens of ways to track you, the first one is your phone with forced Facebook app you can't usually delete, then there are ads by Facebook and Google planted on almost every website to "monitize them" aka, track YOU, then there are people around you who have Facebook at your job home, friends and family and the microphone works all the time.
If you create ten Facebook profiles, you end up with only one profile at Facebook. All of those ten linked to one.
If you create no Facebook account, once again you will end up with one profile at Facebook. You are tracked like a ghost and a very clear profile is built around you.
Most of this is done through your PC browser and phone browser apps that's why everyone should delete Chrome, Firefox and only use Brave. Brave is the only browser that has done a fantastic job blocking out all trackers from Google, Facebook and Twitter. Trackers that have very little to do with advertising and more to do with spying on you. And you pay for all that through your own data that you pay for. Do start using Brave, never install addons and make sure you delete Chrome and all of its spyware addon's.
With that said, if you don't do anything wrong, or your name is John, Joshua, William, Joseph, Matthew, then probably there isn't much to worry about. If you cheat on your taxes, then you should worry about that. If you lie to get unemployment while working for cash or other government benefits, or only or mostly use cash or crypto or xmr, then you should worry about being tracked.
Remember, it's not just you, it's everyone around you who has any Meta apps (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Oculus) and Chrome anyway. It's all the websites you visit that have Google adsense that you can't avoid unless you use Brave. Firefox and Chrome addon's don't come close to cutting off trackers.
