I normally wear an 11 4E in running shoes. Should I go down a full or half size?

Decade?

I have 4 or 5 pairs of 1000 miles. They are easily broken in with 6-12 months.

Worn daily and they are fitted to your foot in a few months.

My first pair worn almost daily (never in snow and avoiding HEAVY rain days) needed resoled in about 3 years. I was wearing through the leather bottoms.

That being said I absolutely love my made in USA 1000 miles.

I have different colors and different soles for nearly every occasion and I lovingly oil them and polish them on a regular basis.

I will have them for the rest of my life.
Sorry for the misunderstanding: I wasn't suggesting that the initial break-in period takes forever, but rather that these will (as would be expected of high quality leather shoes) continue to age with you for a decade (or, to your point, at least a decade).

Part of the reason I wondered about resoling was that these comfort soles did seem particularly rugged. I think it's a comical point of pride that I've managed to have worn through a rugged Vibram sole(!) and for this type of work boot it's my preferred option (though obviously they're not required or preferred by everyone).

Of course, nothing is forever and I have definitely taken a pair through its entire lifetime and given them a viking funeral... but I'm talking about boots that were handed from my father, to my step-brother, and then to me. I had them long enough to go through one resole before the leather in the toe box finally wore through. Can that really be about me not caring for the shoe, or is there some point at which all the oil and wax in the world can't work if there's no underlying leather to hold together(?).

This last story is probably a bit of nightmare for manufacturers like Red Wings and Wolverine, but it's also why I certainly do recommend their premium products for people who want this kind of buy-once/wear-forever type product. I won't say it's never going to fail you, but it'd likely be one of the most reliable things in your wardrobe/work-kit by a long shot.

Good luck!
Jon

Made in the USA and polluted in the USA, Michigan groundwater, river water, and soil to be precise.

There are a few other styles on the site that are discounted, But not at the 269 price. I believe it was 299?? These are just super light and have a softer sole. My pref.
Supervisor sole? Grampa gummies? I'm joking, and yet I feel like this thread could sustain itself for a good while!

I definitely saw the same when I started digging through the site (mostly to assuage myself that they weren't making a lower cost but lowered-functionality tier without the Goodyear welt sole).

Good luck!

The wedge sole used by Wolverine is called the Christy which is made by Vibram. It is a polyurethane based sole. Many manufacturers use this style with different variations on density which determines its softness and longevity.
I was going by what Wolverine had listed. " Time-tested Goodyear™ Welt construction is durable, flexible and allows the boot to be resoled for years of wear…"

Okay I caved and bought one because you guys convinced me. I really needed one for Michigan winters but you guys are saying it's bad and snow. I hope it's just warm and durable. We will see I guess!

The durable part applies but these are not insulated so they might not be warm enough. If you are in fairly deep snow, your feet might get cold. I have boots with lug soles which are great in the snow but I have to work to get the snow out of the lugs. I have brush scrapers at all doors and still struggle to get the snow out of them. In non snow weather, the wedge soles are amazingly comfortable and you will enjoy wearing these boots a lot.

Yeah they don't have much grip in snow. It's kinda of hard to find good boots with an aggressive tread.

The Goodyear welt construction is a stitching process that joins the sole to the upper. Goodyear doesn't make the sole, but they invented the machine that did the stitching.

So when or where can you wear these? I live in WA state. It's been raining nonstop and I'm looking for some rain boots or shoes even.
