No, you need to scan a Target gift card. There are a bunch at the self check out lanes. So after you scan the Apple gift card, then hit "pay", it will say this is eligible for $15 scan a gift card now. So you scan the target gift card then pay. Your receipt should show both the $100 apple gift card and a "promo gift card" with $15 balance.

If buying multiple gift cards you can reuse the same target gift card and just scan it again, the $15 will just add to the existing balance. I did separate transactions for each Apple gift card to be safe. Also, try to redeem your apple gift cards in the app store ASAP to make sure it's not an empty card.

This becomes an issue every single time a deal like this is posted.

Target considers the promotion in the background as follows: $85 Apple + $15 Target with $15 Apple (bonus).

Therefore, the $100 you pay is split between $85 Apple and $15 Target. Since Red card only gives discount on the Apple one, you get an additional $4.25, not the whole $5.

I would not do more than three a day using the same credit card. Last time around, their system was flagging the purchase if you buy multiples in the same day but was however charging the credit card the full amount and failing to load the balance onto the Apple or Target gift cards.

Many were assuming that the balance was being drained out by some sort of a scam when in reality, it was a system glitch.

I have several Apple products I want to purchase including a MacBook M1 Pro, iPhone 13 pro max, and an iPhone 13 pro. How many can you purchase online in one sitting? I plan on going to multiple Targets on my runs in order to buy 6-10 cards and activate and use immediately.

Anybody have any other suggestions for better deals than really maximizing this one?

Just use a different credit card each time and you are golden

Has Target done anything to improve security on the in store cards. A lot of people got cards that had zero balances, when they went to use them. Apple claimed, 'not our issue."

I have a Target Red card also - I understand you can put up to $1000 a day on it. Plan on loading that up to get the 5% back.

I recently got the Hilton Aspire card to get Diamond status - does anyone know if Amex will clawback points if I put ~$2000 in gift cards on this card to meet the minimum spend? Specific questions I know but I figure this community is all about maximizing credit card rewards especially during the holidays!

Yes, it will. Honestly, any purchase on Target with Discover will give you 5% cash back. PayPal with chase will also give to 5% cash back

Would not suggest doing this with Amex cards. The Amex RAT team is pretty good at catching this kind of spend. Not just clawback there is a chance all your Amex accounts might be closed too. So not worth taking the risk.

Still pretty slick considering the GCs can now be used to buy Apple hardware.
Just a heads up, you can't use these with Apple Card 0% finance / 12 monthly payments AND EDU or Military pricing. I stocked up on a bunch of these last years Black Friday from Best Buy & Target. I just ordered my MacBook Pro from the apple store a week ago and I couldn't actually use any of them. You also can't use them to pay off your Apple Card balance unfortunately.

EDIT: I added bold text around the word and in the first sentence. I think that's what's confusing people. You can use these gift cards to pay but you cannot use them with the apple credit card monthly payments (financing). At least not after 11/02/21 which is when I ordered my MacBook pro. I also called and did chat with apple support to try and use my gift card balance.

Maybe I didn't fully understand, but I used Apple gift cards for my education price 14 inch MacBook Pro during checkout, it worked just fine.

Same. There was no issue whatsoever. I loaded the (many, many) gift cards into my Apple account and then paid for my MacBook Pro through the edu storefront using that balance.

Was there a limit to how much you can pay via gift cards? I've read in the past Apple limits gift card balances to $2000 but can't find anything concrete. TIA
