The U6GR5 uses a different panel and electronics than the U6G. Same panel manufacturer but different specs, see here [reddit.com] and here [reddit.com].
Rtings has also stated [rtings.com] that the U6GR5 is a "different TV" than the U6G they previously reviewed and have purchased this U6GR5 and is in their queue for a future review.
Lots of reports of halo effect from the FALD.

I am returning it tomorrow to Costco. It is so bad that even my wife who could care less said to get rid of it.
To get a better look at what I'm talking about I put the TCL 646 next to the u6gr5. This is one of my sons sensory videos. Actually one of the best tests for blooms I have ever seen. Look how bad the blooming is on the u6gr5 is! Unwatchable. https://i.imgur.com/8BpytD1.jpg The extra 250 is very worth it. You can even do the TCL 635 with the same panel if you want Roku. |

First time I have had this experience with Costco on the first day of a BF deal
U6GR has eARC
HDMI 2.1
Variable refresh rate.
Better motion interpolation.
These are the things I noticed right off the bat.

the better question is: how low of a framerate will the VRR still work? some of the cheap implementations are limited to a narrower range and thus not as useful.
I know the U6GR has the specs of a $750 samsung at $450, but when I compare low end models from samsung and lg to the hisense, the hisense looks like the cheaper panel. the reviews say I would be wrong, but my eyes tell me that the u6g is not that impressive. the u8g however looks as good as everyone says, but the motion handling i have personally seen to be poor.
I really wanted to jump on the hisense bandwagon as price to features is unbeatable, but personally the more I look at other low end TVs from samsung and lg, the more I think alot of the lower end models of hisense stuff is hyped.
if you've stared at a U6GR at costco for 5 minutes or more LOL, please share your thoughts compared to other low-mid end name brand TVs.

I only recently discovered that rting said the U6GR is a completely different TV than the U6G and the review for the U6G does not apply: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u6g
Hisense has released a variant of this TV, known as the Hisense U6GR or Hisense U6GR5. It's a completely different TV, with more advanced gaming features, including variable refresh rate support. It also runs the Roku smart interface instead of Android TV. We don't expect our results here to be valid for the U6GR.
