The U6GR5 is NOT THE SAME TV as the U6G currently reviewed by Rtings.com The U6GR5 is a newer TV, made exclusively for Costco.

The U6GR5 uses a different panel and electronics than the U6G. Same panel manufacturer but different specs, see here [reddit.com] and here [reddit.com].

Rtings has also stated [rtings.com] that the U6GR5 is a "different TV" than the U6G they previously reviewed and have purchased this U6GR5 and is in their queue for a future review.

Lots of reports of halo effect from the FALD.

To get a better look at what I'm talking about I put the TCL 646 next to the u6gr5. This is one of my sons sensory videos. Actually one of the best tests for blooms I have ever seen. Look how bad the blooming is on the u6gr5 is! Unwatchable. https://i.imgur.com/8BpytD1.jpg

The extra 250 is very worth it. You can even do the TCL 635 with the same panel if you want Roku.

I am professional audio and video specialist. Weather conditions will effect your tv,regardless covered or not. Get ready for lot's of service calls. I suggest you to build case just let screen exposed. You will have better chance hopefully. Good luck.
Bought this for my office, for late-night TV viewing without waking up the kids. I ran the vegetable video, and mine has very minimal blooming. I compared it with my other two (much more expensive) TVs, and I don't see any differences in blooming worth mentioning. Certainly, nothing like the other guy's posted photos. I did tweak a few settings on the U6GR5: turned the brightness to normal, changed to color balance a bit to get rid of a bit of the green, and changed the contrast a little. The colors are good and the blacks too. I'm pretty happy with it. I have a fancy color calibrator that I use on all my TVs and monitors to make sure they look as good as possible. I haven't run it on this TV yet, but I'm not sure I even need to, since it looks good enough as-is.
I just picked one up on Monday, the 90 day return policy made me feel more comfortable doing so. After having the TV a couple days, I don't have any desire to return it. Picture quality (from my very unprofessional opinion) is beautiful and colors seem punchy but realistic after some calibration. I have some hesitation around the brand and was hoping for 120hz, but this tv checked all the other boxes at a great price and so far so good.

That is interesting. I just bought this TV from Best Buy. I hope I didn't just blindly throw out the papers.

Unfortunately, Best Buy sells the 65U6GR, which has a 1 year warranty. I think only Costco has the 65U6GR5, which has the 3 year warranty. But they're otherwise the same display as far as I can tell. Very confusing.

I just came back from Costco. The picture on this TV looked decent - UNTIL I requested one of the tech to run the same content running on all the other TVs near by.
The moment he changed the content, I was so disappointed. The picture looked dull compared to the other TVs. Also, most importantly the picture was not sharp AT ALL.
I do understand we can tweak some of the settings - still I was not convinced that it could improve that much.
I do agree the other TVs were priced higher - and I honestly believe the price difference is worth to go for a better TV - particularly if this is going to be used on a daily basis.

I too took a look at costco today and was very disappointed with the viewing angle. I was ready to buy one until this. For some it may not matter, but for me and my setup, the viewing angle is too important.

if viewing angle is critical for you, might want to get an IPS panel.

Either that or OLED which cost much more.

Seriously don't buy this TV unless it is to be used as a second tv or a bedroom tv… the blooming is awful and the picture is super washed out no matter what you do. Buy the TCL 646 instead. Way worth the extra 250

Everyone's viewing environment and content are different, but if I the blooming is an issue on this TV, wouldn't putting it in the bedroom make it every worse? We watch movies in a dimly lit bedroom and everything else in the bright living room.

My TCL 55R617 died in 2.5 years. LED backlighting failed. F TCL! I picked up this instead. At least it comes with a 3 year mfgr warranty instead pf TCL's 1 year. RTings gave this model a best buy. Perfect for my bedroom

Since most aren't reading the entire thread i'll reiterate: THIS U6GR5 IS NOT THE SAME AS THE U6G (55U6G) reviewed on rtings.com [rtings.com]. As confirmed by a Rtings staff member, this is a brand new TV, likely with a different panel and other hardware. Rtings has purchased the new TV and it's in their queue for review. They also stated that people should not assume it is the same TV nor the same quality.

These recent comments scare me but mine already shipped via Costco freight. Has anyone been able to cancel a delivery like that prior to delivery to avoid a potential return?

Thanks for the comparison, i'll add it to the wiki. That's hideous! My $200 55" TLC 4-series from last year isn't even that bad!
