As others will mention, check with your local utility company first. If that's not available, and if you're not a Costco member, it seems like Best Buy, Amazon, Hone Depot, etc have matched. But theirs doesn't come with the extra sensor.

Does the sensor take over the thermostat or does it just help? Meaning does it average out the two areas?

that's true but that nest version doesn't work with the temperature sensors, which might be a dealbreaker for a lot of folks (including me).

No it does not average. You can choose one sensor as theain one that controls the thermostat.

It does not average. You just choose which sensor is the "active" sensor (the one in the thermostat or the portable sensor) to determine temperature and the thermostat responds accordingly.

If you live in a condo or a smaller house, the additonal sensors could be "meh"; for everything else, they're essential in my opinion. I have two Nest learning thermostats and 6 sensors around the house. The temp difference between the living room and the downstairs thermostat could be 5 degrees F depending on the time of the day. Having a sensor in the living room let's me chose that as the set point. In addition, you can also determine when the sensor or the thermostat will be used via the app. Unfortunately, it doesn't let you schedule it hourly; you can only pick from 4 predetermined time frames (e.g., morning, afternoon, etc).

When I ordered mine, they were on sale for $199 and I used a $50 coupon. Not worth a return/rebuy at this point.

As for the store price, yes, most likely it'll be $169, but it'll come only in black if that matters.

Just checked my power company (SRP) & it appears they matched $179 sale price in addition to their rebate ($50). Good thing I didn't order yesterday from Costco.
