I assume the mop turns off automatically when it's on carpet..?
As I understand, the s7 does, but not the s5

I have the S6 Pure (which also has a mop.) In terms of operation, there isn't actually a separate "mop" setting when you run the thing. Rather, it's a plastic attachment that acts as a water reservoir with a removable/washable microfiber mop that attaches to the underside rear half of the vacuum and mops the floor by dragging that piece along the ground as it moves. From the vacuum's perspective, it's vacuuming either way. Mopping the floor just requires you attach the additional piece of equipment, and it will drag that mop over any surface it would be cleaning anyway. Also, it states explicitly in the instructions that you should only use water in the reservoir and never any type of cleaning solution so as to avoid corrosion or some such thing.

I bought it refurbished on eBay solely for the vacuum portion (which is excellent and efficient) and didn't think I'd use the mop much at all given those limitations. Nonetheless, I have been quite pleasantly surprised by how well the mop works under those circumstances. Is it as good as a manual mop, soap and bucket? Not at all. But for a floor that needs a good once over with a wet mop and not a full cleaning, it works rather nicely. (For reference, I am using both vacuum and mop on hardwood floors with a good bit of stomped on dirt scattered around thanks to the two little ones who think Peppa Pig is living the high life by jumping in muddy puddles.)

The mop is part of an attachment that you can remove, so if you don't want the mop you have to remove it. Typically you set it to do separate runs if you don't want the mop for carpet area or if you want to mop a specify area, depending on your house layout. Only S7 has the automatic mop raising feature so it can do both carpet and floor at the same time. as well as an oscillating mop, hence the premium.

The thing with Roborock and a lot of other good brands robot vacuum that originated from China is that typical Chinese household uses mainly hard floor and almost no one uses carpeted floor, so a lot of their robots tend to be designed to clean houses with hard floors and may seem like part of the functionality doesn't make a lot of sense when using them in carpeted houses. But also because of this the Chinese brands seem to have all the best mopping robots in the market right now, while iRobot etc. seem to really falling behind in that regards, since iRobot mainly target the US market.

I bought the s4 last month and loved the LiDAR! Roborock beats my old Shark ION by a mile. This is the same price as my s4 so you bet I will be swapping the s5 for the s4! The only issue I had was it not going underneath the couch. It senses that it may get stuck down there even though there is plenty of height.

We've had our s5max for over a year and love it. It will turn on/off mopping based it sensing carport or not. You can also program it. As mentioned, mopping is basically like dust mopping with a damp micro fiber cloth. Don't expect it to do more. We are still very happy with it as I didn't have expectations that it was going to do deep cleaning. It's great for just general maintenance cleaning. We have 1 dog that doesn't shed much as well.

Last year I bought an S6 Maxv and an E4, basically both ends of the product spectrum at the time. Love both of them, the LiDAR mapping is great, but it's hard to argue with the cost effectiveness of the E4. Both do a decent job of maintenance cleaning, the S6 being more efficient. Mopping is cool, and decent for what it is, but does require that manual setup.

How do these Roborock vacuums compare to Wyze one like this: https://slickdeals.net/f/15384403-wyze-robot-vacuum-w-lidar-mapping-technology-220-free-shipping? ($220 expired at Amazon, but it's still $220 at Walmart)

Bought this for $400 from previous deal. The mopping function is kinda meh, but otherwise it's a great machine. It's not as good as the Neato D7 I have from 4 years ago though, side to side comparison clearly shows the Neato is just a better vacuum.

Either way you're dragging a wet mop pad on the carpet. I just do my hardwood one day and carpets the next by setting them up as different rooms. Happy with the product but did find out its a China company.

So you can set this to avoid carpet one day and then have it only do the carpet a different day?

Also if I don't care about the mopping feature.would there be a better option for price/performance?
