As someone who has a pixel 6 Pro, I highly recommend just getting the 6. It's so much cheaper and the Pro has no features that are worth the pricetag over the non pro. If I could do it again, I'd get the pixel 6.

The phone is big on the hands and quite heavy. Be warned. You'll end up missing smaller phone size of 5.7to 6.2 inch screens

Nova launcher is immensely customizable, and I can't recommend it enough. You can move the stock Pixel launcher elements wherever you want, among MANY other options.

u missing the point the 4x translates into 9x with ai

and the non pro can do about 2.2x with ai go test it in bestbuy agaisnt other phone

google cams stands out mostly for the ai not only on the zoom
I will, and prob will still get one. but physical zoom lenses will always be better than ai. so i'm bummed this brand new shiny phone doesn't even do a REAL 2x optical. sad

Pixel 6 on screen fingerprint reader is kind of finky for some. It takes half a second to unlock at times which is super annoying.
yeah... i got a screen protector and it has trouble picking up the full finger print. i can't roll without protection. sucks to have to go back in time and do a pattern instead. wish they kept it on the back

Here is an excerpt of the Pixel 6 review on Arstechnica: [arstechnica.com]
We're three years into the carriers' mmWave experiment, and all signs point to it being a failed technology along the same lines as WiMax; it seems most useful as a way to justify marketing claims for "5G." According to an OpenSignal survey, mmWave access in the US stands at 0.8 percent availability on even the best carriers. With the feature being so useless, no one should sacrifice anything to get mmWave on a phone. If you can get a Pixel 6 without mmWave, you'll have a normal, complete metal ring around the phone, and we absolutely recommend that you do that.
So while you can praise it unless it can be used on a regular basis it is not worth it. I assume this is the version of 5G that cannot go thru buildings, walls, trees, cars, etc. Basically only good for line of sight between the phone and tower.
Seems like person who wrote that Arstechnica hasn't actually experienced mmwave firsthand either.

We're going to have to agree to disagree. Just because something isn't available to the masses doesn't make it "failed technology" or worthless. Mmwave will come to more places but it may never blanket the world (or a single country) and that's ok. It doesn't mean that a phone with mmwave capability will never be useful to anyone who doesn't live in a major city. Mmwave will be there when they visit and they will be wowed by it like I was.

True, with the exception of battery life. The 5a's battery lasts longer due to it's lower specs.

So, the Pixel 5a for $399, or the Pixel 6 for $549? Pros and cons anyone?
Screens: The Pixel 6 has a better screen, but the 5a's screen should suffice for most average users, imo. They are both 90hz and vibrant OLED panels. The 6 gets a good deal brighter, but even the 5a will do fine in direct sunlight, so it isn't that huge of a difference there. EDIT: The Pixel 5a only has a 60hz screen. I got this mixed up with the Pixel 4a 5G, my mistake. 90hz makes the display feel quite a bit smoother, but is not a complete game changer. It is however, a nice feature, but not one I would base my phone buying decision on. When I had a OnePlus 7 Pro, I actually would up reducing the screen to 60hz to get better battery life.
Performance: The Pixel 6 definitely has stronger performance in the GPU and CPU for sure. However, this doesn't really mean much for the average user, because the Snapdragon 765G in the 5a is fast for everyday tasks. The biggest difference is in the GPU. The Pixel 6 will totally be worth it for anyone who plays demanding games. I never game on my phone, so I am fine with the 5a personally.
Battery: There isn't a ton of data on this yet, but it seems the Pixel 6 gets better battery life! EDIT: I just watched some additional video reviews, and the consensus seems to be that the battery is very similar between the two. The Pixel 6 gets marginally better battery life.
Cameras: The Pixel 6 definitely wins this round too, but the 5a still takes fantastic shots! It is still top in it's class, and it can even hold it's own against the big dogs in a lot of ways. Again, the 6 beats the 5a, but I would argue that the 5a is good enough for most, especially for the price.
Other: The Pixel 5a has a headphone jack, which is a handy feature that I have utilized more than once. The Pixel 6 has wireless charging, which some people love. I don't mind plugging my phone in, and I would rather save the $150 honestly. Also, as some other users commented, the Pixel 5a has the rear capacitive fingerprint scanner, which is allegedly both faster and more reliable than the optical scanner on the 6.

So it really boils down to what you want in a phone! I would argue that the 5a is worth the cost savings because it offers just enough for most users, and it's really affordable. Get the Pixel 6 if you want to feel like your phone is newer and shinier, and/or if you are a big gamer/need the marginally better battery life. Sorry for the long post lol. At lot of this is subjective, and I would always advise you do your own further research before purchasing a new phone! Hope I helped you a bit Smilie

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are identical in the areas that matter: SoC, main rear facing camera, software. They are close enough in two other main areas: battery life, screen quality.

$550 vs $900 is a pretty large difference in price.
Actually, the cameras are the biggest differentiator between the devices. The Pixel 6 Pro gains the additional 48MP telephoto (ƒ/3.5) lens for optical zoom. The Pixel 6 has no optical zoom at all, only digital. You can test the two devices out yourself in-store and notice the big difference between the zoom quality in them. The front camera is also clearer and has a higher fov, meaning each shot will be sharper and capable of capturing more people/nature/etc. in your photo. But you are right, is it worth paying 61% more for another camera? I'd say no, but the 6 Pro is outselling the 6 from what I've read, so I guess I'm wrong lol.

EDIT: I just realized you said, "main rear facing camera" so that point stands, the main sensors are identical. I do think the zoom lens shouldn't be understated though, it's quite invaluable to most people, in my experience at least.

Specs can just be numbers on paper. I had a Pixel 6 for a few days but ended up returning it yesterday because my 4a 5G was just as fast as it, and at times, a little faster than it.

Pretty much sums it up.

I have the Pixel 6.

The fingerprint reader is absolute ish. Add on a screen protector and forget about it...it is useless.

Oh and don't forget:

The weight. Jesus this is a beast of a phone in terms of weight. If weight is an issue, reconsider the Pixel 6 series.

You better get a case for this phone solely for the reason of balancing out the back of the phone. The camera bulge is crazy. You really need a decent case to make the back flush. Then again, the iPhone 13 series has the same issue. All these phones and their crazy camera systems!

The speakers are also pretty ish. I compared the audio from the Pixel 6 to my old OnePlus 6 and my iPhone 13. Its not even a comparison. iPhone 13 is the best. OnePlus 6 still sounds great. Pixel 6 sounds like mono. Really sad Frown.

Side note: do not use the camera protectors if you get them included with your Pixel 6 screen protectors. Yes, it seems like a good idea since the cameras are the selling point for these phones and you never want to scratch the glass in front of the lens. The problem is that these protectors seem to cause a focusing issue. Was occurring on my iPhone 13 and my wife's iPhone 13 Pro Max. Took off the protectors and it was like we got a brand new camera. As a result I didn't even waste my time putting the protector on my Pixel 6.

I think the phone to look out for is the Xperia 5 iii (the 1 iii is better, but I'm looking at the price point. 1-iii is $1300, the 5-iii should be $900). Good weight, thin, good cameras, 3.5mm jack, microSD card, capacitive fingerprint scanner.

Does the Pixel 6 feel a lot larger and heavier than the iPhone 13? I use an iPhone 12 Pro and have been thinking about getting back to Pixels again, but the size and weight of the 12 pro is pretty much at the edge of my comfort zone… (I used the 3a before switching to iPhone)

Install the update Google pushed out yesterday. Makes the fingerprint sensor work much much better
