I assumed that everyone that wanted a Freak, got them for $53 with the 4ah battery and charger?
I had thought Lowe's was selling them that cheap because there was a new generation coming out, but it's still just the Gen 3. (Edit: I'm mistaken.... in image it looks like a different version I'm not familiar with.)
Bosch will keep them in their lineup for now... but if there is something new coming out next year, ( something that might, theoretically, be an impulse driver design) then I assume these will be discontinued.
Either way, these aren't bad as impact drivers (They're more durable than the overhyped dcf850). On paper and in testing they don't measure our well, but at the end of the day, they maintain a stability that other impact drivers lack. Torque and speed become moot at a certain point, but they sure do sucker people into buying things based solely upon that.
Next year is going to be an awesome year for Bosch. By 2023 they could dominate the NA market by word of mouth alone. It all depends on what products that have been in testing, end up getting released. 😉😎
Adjustable does come in handy for stainless (which you can twist off really easy going into hardwood then framing). Lighter, more compact, and more power than previous non brushless model for sure. Just drove probably ~4000 screws with one, framing and hardwood decking (predrilled tho, but huge), exceptional battery life too.

Would love a pulse driver. I was disappointed when the concept didn't seem to catch on when Makita, Milwaukee, and Ridgid came out with decent pulse drivers a few years ago. I think it's another case of the numbers on paper (torque rating and IPM) winning buyers more than actual performance.

I also think people want loud tools because they equate that to power. So the oil based drivers being much quieter would trick those who didn't know better into thinking it was weaker.
Or, they'd see a YouTube video where people drive in lags and say "whoa, it took 2 seconds longer to drive in an 8inch lag.
