Some fish may put more fights than others, but I wouldn't be comfortable reeling in anything greater than 5-7 lbs using 30. It's not that it can't be done, it is just too much effort. That being said, when you do saltwater fishing, you don't really know what comes next.

Any lake fishing and shore line / surf fishing would work. 30 series (equivalent to 3000 series for other brands) is an all around spool series. You don't really have to worry about a larger series unless you get off shore. You may have a tougher time with larger inshore species like bull reds, king salmons, sturgeons types, but not impossible. If it matters, I caught a 38" bull red with a smaller spool size (daiwa 2500 ballistic) and had a great time pulling it is. I honestly never had experience fishing with this brand but I heard good reviews with them.
