I can attest that I have purchased a fake micro SD card from Newegg. Labelled as 128GB but eventually after a year noticed that it was actually less than 32GB. Rarely used that specific card and was too late to return.

Not defending the guy about fake cards. but have heard a lot the same from amazon sd card buyers due to inventory mixed up between amazon and market place sellers

Yes there are high chances buying from amazon or newegg that you will end up with fake card. Don't have to believe it though, its your money, spend it as you please.
I only trust bestbuy or walmart or target (local physical stores) for my sd card needs.

I trust Best Buy like I trust their ability to honor the $10 Best Buy gift card for $100 Apple gift card purchase. They absolutely didn't honor it even after I contacted several times. Best Buy is terrible. My experience is not limited to that one event unfortunately.

Very easy to get fakes from Amazon and eBay. So much so that I would not buy from either one. Newegg, wm, bb "should" be safe, but a fake could certainly find it's way into their inventory.

Does the Samsung tool for checking fake SD cards actually work? I bought this same card with 32gb capacity on Amazon and the tool noted it as an authentic card. It's worked fine for months now, but just curious if the results can be faked.

It will probably work fine, but you do not need to buy the high endurance line. This is made for continuous/frequent rewrites (think dash cam or security cam). You will probably be able to get a 256 gb card for about the same price per GB and that will give him more than enough room for quite a few games.
