You don't want 100% Merino. I don't think they've made that in years. 100% Merino will fall apart in no time. It needs nylon to hold it together.

No, sorry, unless you have proof I'm not buying it. I have been buying both brands for years and even the mountaineering socks haven't been 100% for years, because they fell apart.

100% wool is not desirable. They had a select few styles with 100% wool maybe 10 years ago, but they were quickly phased out as inferior. Wool is less durable than nylon. Wool is a good material for socks because it wicks moisture well, doesn't stink, and insulates while wet. But you don't need 100% wool to get that benefit - you want a blend to get the durability of nylon (plus some degree of spandex to retain shape since wool also doesn't retain shape well).

The wool in the socks is 100% Merino wool but the overall sock is reinforced with nylon and Lycra

Guys - ski newbie here so need need some help. Are these value ski socks? I see a lot of darn tough socks on amazon for $25 which seems about the same price as this sale

Also, in the whole selection they have, what would you recommend for a beginner? I don't want to break the bank as I have to buy 2 pairs for 2 adults, 2 kids

I suggest over the calf ski full cushions. I prefer darn toughs and my wife prefers smartwool. Both offers full cushion ski socks.

Darn Tough are my go to for winter running in the Midwest. They are my favorite wool socks to use when it's below freezing and with snow on the trails. Unfortunately all I see them putting out for running lately with merino are light and ultralight socks. I have one pair of those and really like them but never reach for them (go with heavier weight Darn Tough) when temps are in single digits or negatives. Light weight should be just fine near or below zero.

Maybe try the tactical ones? I remember seeing they had a no show with cushion

You Sir have no idea what your talking about. I have 100% wool I said 100% wool Darn tough and smart wool socks for years and they are still kicking. If you buy good quality socks they will last believe me. You also need to wash and dry them correctly.

The Darn Tough 1/4 Vertex running socks I got about 5 years ago are perfect. As an FYI for anyone wanting to use these for cold weather/snow, I would not recommend no show socks. 1/4 or longer are better for really cold/snowy conditions because there isn't a gap between the bottom of your tights and the top of your shoes.

I love darn tough and I love Smartwool. I wear more darn tough in the winter because they just hold the heat in better and are a little tighter on my feet. I wear more Smartwool in the summer as they are a little more stretchy and breathe a little bit better for those hot days. Both will last you a very long time. Hope this helps.

I think Smartwool breathe a bit better but Darn Tough are more durable and have a lifetime warranty.
