There was an even better deal earlier this week where you could get the AD400Pro + 48" Octobox for $419.
And - I hate to say it - I should've posted it here but I didn't for fear of my order being cancelled. Sorry, slickdealers. :'( I knew if they suddenly got 100+ orders - no way it would ship. I already tempted fate by ordering 4 but they arrived today.
Now I just have to figure out how to sell these damn octoboxes because ain't nobody got use for 4 of these giant things!
Also - pretty sure you're using a special referral link. Adorama wasn't publicly posting this price. Public price is $520.
Now I see what Adorama does. Their "email" sales goes to a different link then the regular priced link. I got the email yesterday morning, showing this on sale at $419 but when I search Adorama's website, it showed $519. I thought there was a screw up and I didn't post the deal.
FYI...be careful with the bundles. When I clicked on some of the bundles and then clicked the link to the AD400PRO, the price went up to $519, not $419.
Note, there is a Pro Mark II version for the same price. I assumed the new one is better so making sure to select Mark II. Yesterday I didn't pay attention and order the old one so had to cancel and order again with Mark II

For novice, ad200 is a better place to start? if so then any deals on it. also which c stand and first diffuser/etc you would recommend, thank you.
For a novice - the cheaper the better. Something like what would be a dual purpose on/off camera flash like a Godox V860II-S would be even better, IMO.
But an AD200 is also good. It just won't be able to be used as an on camera flash - which is kinda important if you ever do event photography.

I'd read up on strobist 101 (google it)
Thank you, I have been learning from strobist, not sure if it is uptodate for gear part. I do have godox v860II. and have used it without stand for off camera.
For someone at my level, what should be the first light modifier, various size of octabox/umbrella keep confusing me more.

Umbrellas are a great place to start. Take up very little space, very affordable, etc. But - I'd also start thinking to yourself, "What images do I want to create with my single flash?"
Start following photographers like FJH Photography and others on Instagram/Youtube who post their photos + lighting setups. See what they do with one flash and then see what light modifiers they're using.
I think your best thing is to recreate what other people are doing first - master that - understand how light works best by replicating what you've seen and fiddling with aspects of it - and then find your own artistic talent later.
That's my genuine suggestion. No shame in copying what others do before you find your own voice and know exactly how you want to light something or take a photo. Everyone starts by copying others (And some never stop - lol).

So you "selflessly" ordered 4 to resell and came here to brag about it?
Currently use godex flashes, they can overheat quickly especially if using HSS, but even without doing too many shots in a row will slow down recycling time by a lot. Will these have the same issues?
Also I use magmod gels regularly, guessing those won't work with these. Any similar systems that allow for quick gel changes? Thanks.
