Actually, Onkyo (along with Pioneer) was formally acquired by VOXX [klipsch.com] through their Premium Audio Company two months ago. PAC also owns Klipsch, Jamo, Mirage, Teac, and a few other well known brands, so I think Onkyo is in safe hands now. The manufacturing will be done by Sharp going forward.

With regards to Onkyo (as well as Pioneer) receivers - they have a lively, vibrant sound that many audiophiles prefer over clinical and dry (typical modern Denon or Marantz for example). I have personal experience with all of these brands and have no hesitation recommending Onkyo. Yes, their higher-end models with Dirac room optimization (NR7100 and NZ50) are superior to NR6100/6050, but they are also over $1100 MSRP and not available anywhere currently. For an average home theater NR6050 is more than capable and a great deal at $499. Also, unlike MY2020 Denons, Yamahas and Marantz units, this receiver has fully functional HDMI 2.1 ports and should be compatible with PS5 and XBOX-X running 8K HDR - out of the box.

THX is a pay to play certification that many manufacturers no longer participate in due to the cost. THX also watered itself down by offering lower grades of certification (Compact, Select, Ultra and Dominus). There are many products without THX certification that outperform products with certification. Anyone that buys based on the certification is just falling to marketing prey.

Highly unlikely. Supplies of quality AVRs, especially with the latest HDMI outputs are very limited from most manufacturers, due to chip shortages and supply chain issues. No reason for retailers to discount them.

Snagged one. I've been contemplating upgrading from my Marantz SR7001 for some time, but it recently started acting up. I guess 14 years old isn't too bad. I've gotten great use out of it. With the lack of units and deals presently I think I'll hold off on getting a more equivalent replacement as long as this one sounds good enough. Guess I won't have much more excuse to finally get a 4k TV.

Just look up actual bench tests of the models you are interested in. You can then compare models with and without the certification and see their performance.
